    Another question on gear..!

Hello fellow tanks, I've long lurked but finally decided to pop on with my current befuddlement hoping for a nudge in the right direction. I've looked around, and gear is always a highly personalized issue, so I couldn't find my precise situation.

I am doing some coil tanking with my FC, and as a main tank I am just trying to optimize my mythology spending. Link to my profile:

So basically, I have Allagan Chest and Neck, as well as Valor head piece to compliment the Allagan. I've upgraded the ring already to get rid of my AK. What is do you think I should prioritize next?

My current best options seem to be +1 Shield, or Valor gloves. I am hesitant to +1 the shield, as Allagan can drop from T1 anytime. I know not to base everything on RNG, but this is part of the question. Is the +1 shield going to provide me with more mitigation (noticebly?) then going with Valor gloves? Going from DL gloves to Valor equates to +5vit +10parry crit+15 (minus acc, but I'm far above cap unfortunately) +6str and +4 defense. +1ing the shield will give me +14block rate/str +1str +2vit +2 parry.

Is the +14 block rating worth the jump for one tier ilvl myth spending? Or is the 2 tier ilvl from valor gloves going to net me better mitigation?

Anyways, sorry for the long winded post, just really torn on what to go for. Especially if my rng isn't terrible.. I could be wielding an Allagan shield next week. Could be much longer though!

Any help is much appreciated! [/wave]

I would suggest to +1 your shield first. It has better secondary stats than the Allagan shield as it's easy to make up the ACC elsewhere and you are WAY over the needed amount as is. It is a nice upgrade for 1 weeks worth of Mythology. Then I would work on Valor legs as Valor Legs + Hopelight Boots are still better than Darklight and you should eventually get Allagan boots from turn 1. If not then you can just work on Valor boots after the legs.

+1 the sword is an option after the shield as well if you feel you are having aggro issues. However I've been doing turn 5 without any noticeable aggro issues so this is really a decision based on how you are performing with your particular FC make-up.

Wow, really surprised all the outspoken tanks didn't come rushing to give some advice. xD

I appreciate the advice Ladon, I disagree that Skill Speed is worth anything on +1 vs. accuracy on Allagan, but I definitely understand where you are coming from (especially at my current accuracy). Part of it is planning for the future in my mind. Either way I appreciate your advice!

I still would like to hear a little more discussion on if the mitigation difference in my ilvl80 shield > ilvl90 shield is worth the myth over a body piece such as the Valor gloves (or suggested leggings?). *Going from DL gloves to Valor equates to +5vit +10parry crit+15 (minus acc, but I'm far above cap unfortunately) +6str and +4 defense. +1ing the shield will give me +14block rate/str +1str +2vit +2 parry.* as a recap.

Part of the reason I'm toiling over myth so much, is come warrior buff I plan on tanking on warrior again.. so I don't want to waste a spending in any way. Its nice to have paladin geared either way, and come 2.1 ilvl80 crystal tower gear can fill in some gaps as well, so I don't mind spending on paladin in the mean time.

*edit* Weird.. just noticed I'm in my mnk gear. Logged out tired last night musta forgot to switch classes while I was moving things around.

Paladin is currently the only class that I know of that gets 2 shiney thing! And as we all know... Shiney thing is the most important stat!!!
Remember 2 shiney thing > 1 shiney thing > no shiney thing
    All other stats are secondary...

Ok nvm, in all seriousness... You said you are switching to war, so don't bother getting anything that isn't useable by both classes.

Here is my charactor for you to get an idea maybe. Just ignore my legs atm. Saving up for the AF+1's.....
    Kana Reith

First off, Do NOT +1 the shield at all unless you NEVER plan to do coil. It is a waste to do so.

First off I would save up for your Legs (unless you never plan to get the AF+1 Body) then the Allegan Legs might be a better choice for you (Due to the fact your way over the Acc cap). If not then I would move on to the Hands. Its kinda what drops in coil makes the choice on your next buy.

Nice litte guide I found Online

Thanks to who ever the author was as it has helped me out ALOT in gearing my girl.

Don't plus one your shield. Ever.

Pretty much what you want is Valor chest and legs allagan everything else. Cept for the ring you want the fending ring ( green one ).

You can tweak valor gear to give you a little more parry but the general consensus is that accuracy is your more or less most important stat at this point in the game.

As said above its really up to what drops during your raids which will dictate your purchase each week. I personally think its a huge waste to buy the chest piece when it drops in turn 1. Same could be said for the shield, however the shield is only 300 myth, which makes it the cheapest option. Besides you may not get the allagan shield for a while. Beaten T1 7 times or so so far, havent seen it once, but I did get my chest, yet Ive only seen the chest that one time. I really cant see spending 825 on a chest piece when a chest drops on T1, even though the myth chest is BIS. But I digress.

What I do is check what I currently have, then see what doesnt drop until Turn 4 and fill that out first. So at this point I am filling the turn 2 stuff because I already filled my turn 4 drops with the myth gear. I am not really worried about BIS so that makes my decision making process easier. I figure if I have all level 90 gear, im gonna be a beast regardless.
