We already have some decent icons but we need at least 4x as many. It'd be nice for example to have one corresponding to each action, as well as one for each class/job.

Technically, as they're all stored client-side, there's no reason custom images couldn't be used, but it would probably never happen since the PS3 wouldn't be able to support it.

In XI I found myself rarely using the menu system as macros were much faster and efficient. From a UI perspective, the action bar is much like the macro menu and this is by no means a request to replace / remove the macro menu. This feature further enhances the use of the action bar and would be a great feature to implement I believe.[/QUOTE]They'd still have to implement a new interface to do point assignments for actions, since the action assignment screen doubles for that functionality right now.
