Traditional Final Fantasy UI for battles.

Bring back the traditional UI for battles:

Attack (switch targets or toggle Auto attack on-off?)
    Magic
    Ability
    Weapon Skill
    Item

This is the Final fantasy UI, it's always been like this and should never change for any reason, you're still using it in FF action-style RPG and it works perfectly (Vers XIII, type-0).
Whitout that UI I (we?) will never feel like doing Final Fantasy battles.

    Sorry for my bad english

Just so I get what you are asking for.

You want the combat UI to be changed from a hotbar one-click system (for PC keyboard users anyway) to a menu-driven system?

If that is the case, then no thanks.

    To be honest i wouldn't mind both or the option at least to have one way over the other, i kinda miss the old FF menu too ^^;

Thatd be awesome. Or at the very least an FFXI style UI. Since SE are now adding auto-attack very soon it seems like they're gonna have a lot of lee-way to change things about a bit with the UI. Hopefully something good will come of that lee-way.

Unfortunately that system wouldn't work in an active world. You need to react fast to certain skills and abilities, and navigating menus seriously hinders your ability to do this. It is a nice idea, but it wouldn't work in practice.

So I don't get it, you want a menu system that is clunky, to be circumvented by a macro system because the new clunky menu is also no good? I really am not following the point of this now.

If they had a keyboard/mouse or Gamepad mode to differ between the two, I wouldnt complain.

That's not what i was implying, as earlier i stated that i wouldn't mind the ability to toggle between the two styles. You said that certain skills require the user to act fast and also stated that due to this the menu system would not be valid. I was merely stating that if someone wanted to use the menu system it wouldn't impair them so much due to the fact that macros are just as quick as hotkeys/actionbar (In essence they are the same thing.) You say that the menu system may be clunky, but there are benefits, such as being able to access all of the skills you have, rather than those you can fit on your action bar. (Which may be good depending how they are handling skills in the new system) Also if you use a gamepad, the menu system wouldn't be any more clunky than the action bar is now, and with auto attack would probably be much easier for people on gamepads to find and access the abilities they want.

So...what is FFXI then? It uses the classic FF menu as requested by the OP, and it does a great job with it. I used it exclusively. Even with my WHM. And never had any issues with speed, timing, or anything of the sort. Especially with a controller, there is little to no speed difference between navigating left/right to find the right icon, and navigating through a classic menu system.

That being said, I rather enjoy the current FFXIV UI, and think that it will appeal to more MMORPG fans, even if its not as...FF as it could be.
