Amount of Gathering Attempts?

I only have 4 attempts, which makes things such as Brunt Force useless to me. I can have a max of 5 with the +1 gathering attempt or ageless words but both do not stack so I can never reach 6 which would be the only way to even get a 4 chain combo. Am I missing something here?

It works for leve nodes. That's all I've used it for.

Unspoiled nodes have six attempts, so it's possible to use Brunt Force to guarantee an HQ gather.

+1 gather attempt nodes and the skill that gives you +1 attempt does stack. But you have to make at least 1 attempt first before you activate the skill. I never actually tried it on a non- +1 gather attempt spot, can it be used right away and turns it into a +5 spot?

Ageless Words is like a cure spell. If there is nothing to cure it will fail. You have to make an attempt to "hurt" the tree or bush first then it will cure it up. It does not give you 5 attempts on non-traited trees unless you make an attempt.

Until you start doing leves or unspoiled nodes only use ageless on traited trees the best way to use it and not potentially waste your GP is to hack away at the tree/bush till you have one final attempt at it. At that time if you have hit every single swing then use Ageless and swing again. If you hit you will have 5chain and can use BF to get your 100% HQ. The reason to not use Ageless right after the first attempt is because if you miss a swing somewhere you have pretty much wasted the 300GP to use Ageless cause with out the combo of being able to use BF it is kinda pointless.
