    First off, you can't swap while in combat anyway. Second. YOU know how to fight those mobs. YOU have the equipment with you to do so. Why exactly can't you take out your staff and kill those mobs? Taking out an axe/mining pick suddenly gave you amnesia or something?
    Look at it vice versa, what's the point of a combat class if it doesn't allow you to kill mobs when they're close to a node you want to mine?

    If you want to take a swing at an enemy with your pickaxe you can. Hell when I'm gathering in low level zones I'll often help the lowbies with their kills by braining a few mobs with my logging axe

    Using real life as an argument for a mechanic. Ha, genius!

    In all seriousness though, I'd prefer it if basically every single ability would reset to it's natural cooldown. You can't change in combat, you can't change in dungeons either so naturally this isn't really open for abuse, so I don't see the problem.

    It would be trivial to store the cooldowns for each of your available skills in memory. It doesn't even have to tick. They just store the cooldown period remaining when you switch. SE will probably claim they can't do it because of PS3 memory limitations. This will open up the door for hacks though, unless they store these CD values on the server which is a sucky solution but not impossible.

    Is there really a cooldown for Steady Hand II when switching? I often switch between crafting classes, and then begin crafting right away. I don't have Steady Hand II, but all of the abilities that I have are instantly available.

    So Much This!

    When I am chopping trees and watching paint dry, a FATE pops right next to me, I finish off the 2 chops I still have on the tree, switch into my CNJ, and have to stand there doing nothing at all while I see the zerg army overrun that FATE, and get Silver (sometimes even only Bronze) even though I've been there the whole time.

    Just put everything into its recast cooldown and be done with it. I don't really see a point to force such a long cooldown on everything.

    PS: IIRC the longer cooldowns do activate their recast timer upon switching. What annoys me to no end is the basic attacks like Fast Blade.
