Updater - Still terrible

There's enough trolling on this forum. I don't need to add to it. I started it up 2 hours ago and for the first 2 or 3 min.s it was 1 to 15kb, then it went to 1mb/s and held steady. Even with the fast download, I'm bored since the servers are still down.

Torrenting works great for me:

I will try to give you the step by step.

1) Once the new patch is out, launch the game. After it starts to download you can cancel it.

2) Go to this directory:
C:\Users\XXX\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV\downloads\ffxiv\48eca647\metainfo
a. Find the most recent file "prolly be the date of the patch" and double click it "assuming you have a torrent client open" this will "Torrent" the patch.

3) Once the download is complete open the containing folder, then copy the file.

4) Go to this directory:
C:\Users\XXX\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV\downloads\ffxiv\48eca647\patch
a. paste the file into the directory, it may complain a bit "the file the client tried to download is there" just paste the new file over the old.

5) Launch the game, it should automatically install the new patch and your good to go.

I didn't think opening up ports would actually do anything, but I'm amazed at how simple it was to do, and how much better it actually worked.

@Dubont, SS it and post here. I was having a hard time opening ports to start with, but got it to work in the end. Maybe you're doing it incorrectly.

Have you checked your firewall settings? mine was doing the same until I set mine to allow FFXIV.

The fact is it'll work for some and won't work for others, and sometimes it'll work and other times it won't work. There's been times I'd be able to download a patch in a few minutes (like tonight), and other times I am forced to resort to uTorrent.

Basically, it could be a lot of things but I'm not at all convinced it is server-related.

To be honest, I'm on pretty crappy internet but I was able to get a steady 500kbps down and it took about 15 minutes. Perhaps it's luck, no I'm not trolling. Perhaps it's the clients you're being connected to? Close and re-open the downloader to connect to new peers? Not sure whta to say but I had no issues. I might add i have an open network to my computer and disabled the firewalls as well as having my computer's ip DMZ'd so there's no risk of ports blocking the data.
