Why the hell is there a cooldown when you switch jobs?

In a game where the primary feature is the ability to switch to any class at any time, I can't for the life of me figure out why I have to wait 30 seconds to swing my axe after switching from Fisher -> Marauder.

It's not like you can swap jobs during combat. So there's nothing exploitable by switching jobs cause it's built into the freaking game. Can we get this fixed so we can actually start crafting when we swap to a crafting class instead of waiting a minute and a half for Steady Hand II to reset?

With the cool down resets this is an easier way for SE to keep you from using a CD on class 1 with a two minute timer, switching to class 2, then back to class 1 to reset the timer before the original 2 minute timer had refreshed. The way it works currently is MUCH easier than trying to keep track of all the individual cool downs for 20 different classes/jobs so you can't exploit.

Sure it sucks. but for SE it beats the alternative work/code required.

I'm pretty sure this is indeed the case, but the GP loss whenever you switch to a gathering class still needs to die in a fire.

Simple, and less frustrating alternative, would be to set everything to its recast timer once you change classes.

90s recast? gotta wait 90s (okay, sounds fair). 2.5s recast? gotta wait 30s (wtf seriously why?)

I completely disagree. It would be WAY too broken if you could go to a node, pop your highest Gathering+, HQ+, attempts +1, etc. When you're finished, run 10 steps to the next node, swap classes really quick, back again and have all your GP waiting for you at full?! Gathering crystals would be completely trivial, not to mention leves.

Okay, I might just be in the minority that thinks everything should NOT be instant gratification or handed to me on a silver platter. Probably why none of my classes are at 50 yet, also. It's just my opinion, but that is a giant "WELCOME!!" sign for exploitation.

I posted this same thread before, because I agree completely.

Since you can't swap during combat, it makes abuse in fates (lol) limited, especially with level restrictions and you can't swap at all in dungeons so has no potential for abuse there.

They could make certain cd's tic from their max cooldown. I could see Hallowed Ground being abusable. I could even see if the wanted to make blood for blood, fight or flight, etc tick from their cooldown but if I want to switch and raise someone and get back what I was doing, that should offer minimal penalty to me. Or maybe I want to switch and cast protect on my party, or whatever (I know I'd lose it when I switched back myself)

The good thing is if you switch from miner to botany (vise versa) you don't loose your GP

What does need to die in the fire though is when you are a miner or botany and cant change your class to fight the monster that is trying to attack you... The only option you have is to run, call your chocobo and defend yourself with the shit weapon you have in your hand...
