I stopped reading after this: "new auto-attack system is basically a copy of FF11 after more details are revealed" (this is your first sentence).
FFXI must be the only game with auto-attack huh. Educate yourself. The rest of your post sounds like it's being delivered by a masochist. I respect your opinion, but SE is gonna do what the majority wants, and they don't want the current system the way it is.

I think none of the words say "FFXI must be the only game with auto-attack" in my post, so it may be a misunderstanding (or miss-reading). As to "more details are revealed", I mean like "mages will do auto-attack in close range", "archer will have close range attack", and "magic effects will be separated into single or AOE by cases". These changes were made to fit into auto-attack system, and these are exact what we had in FF11.I stopped reading after this: "new auto-attack system is basically a copy of FF11 after more details are revealed" (this is your first sentence).

In addition, according to the auto-attack demo video, it's obvious that recovery lag from normal attack is gone, and various-purpose normal attacks were not showed as well. In terms of the number of parameters players can control in a battle, that auto-attack system is actually to do less well than what we have now.
I understand what the majority wants based on the votes, and it's not hard to see, in order to make more money, SE needs to satisfy the majority. However, this fact can't tell you which system is better in terms of what a creative game should have.
You know what I am not interested in on ANY level? The current latency between the current auto-atta--- I mean button mashing "non-autoattack system". Its awful. It really really really really really subtracts from the game. Really. I played FFXI for 6 years. When I activated an ability in that game, it went. I didn't wait. I wasn't concerned with the order of the abilities going off. Timing is a huge deal in this, and every, video game. If you think, even for JUST a second, that the current system is BETTER than auto attack then you, sir, are an idiot.
you magically correlate lag on actions to AA, when in fact aion and wow have just as many button presses per minute if not more (see stamina) and they dont have lag. Dont mix lag issues with other issues. You know what I am not interested in on ANY level? The current latency between the current auto-atta--- I mean button mashing "non-autoattack system". Its awful. FFXI battle was really really boring. It excelled at milestones and charachter progression. Fighting in FFXI was a snooze fest.
Does anyone voting for auto-attack understand the fact that the current battle system keeps you active in battles instead of casually sitting back and watching your character automatically hit things?
I can't help but feel surrounded by ignorance.
How many of you have actually played FFXI? How many of you have played a game with auto attack in the last 5 years? How many of you have actually played a game without auto attack in the last 5 years?
Remembering that: What was more enjoyable? What kept you in tune with your battles? If you say auto-attack, you better provide a clear in depth explanation, else I consider your judgement flawed and unable to hold any weight.
Auto attack doesn't need to be a part of this game. They designed the current battle system around it; all they need to do is refine it, not remake it. It's a huge waste of time that could be better spent on other mechanics like polishing the actual battle mechanics, action bar and hotkey management, making the game less macro reliant, stamina management, cooldown management, class balance and uniqueness, etc.
I feel that the reason they're reverting back to something they used in the past because is because 1) They took a chance and received a huge backlash from the community - not because of the 111 battle system - but because the game was clearly unfinished (lack of mechanic polish, lack of engine optimization, lack of content). and 2) the previous system worked. Guess what? The previous system is over 8 years old, used in the majority of MMORPGs, and this is an entirely new game.
People have based their playstyle around the current battle system. Some heavily enjoy it, especially people playing ranged classes or those that do crazy timed attacks with varying jobs (myself included). Like I said previously; if that's changed, people lose enjoyment in fighting, and potentially the entire game itself.
In regards to 'lag'; welcome to playing on a server in Japan from America. It won't change unless regional servers are implemented: http://ffxiv.zam.com/forum.html?foru...92063227414682
Have you even partied with JP players? Have you even seen how early they can attack? How little delay they have? Have you see them attacking a monster 20 feet away? Have you seen US players do this, ever?
Want to solve the attack spam without forcing a global change to auto attack? Put a delay on things so the animations HAVE TO PLAY OUT COMPLETELY. That's a way to fix it without throwing away all the work done on the new battle system.
Think I'm about done typing for now..
i didn't even read this thread because i believe it to be a waste of FFXIV resources beings that auto attack is implemented in the next patch. You should apply your creative thinking towards reachable goals.
Considering the game I used to play most was Shin Megami Tensei: IMAGINE, the current battle system was easy for me to learn. But, I have no problem with the Auto-Attack implementation. If it will make the game better, I'm all for it.

Snooze fest? oh please! In that game we had complete control of what we did and HOW we did it. It was easy to plan bursts for mages and chains for meleers. And BLU? Blu was SO MUCH FUN to use with that system.you magically correlate lag on actions to AA, when in fact aion and wow have just as many button presses per minute if not more (see stamina) and they dont have lag. Dont mix lag issues with other issues.

blu was cool mostly because it broke most of the rules of FFXI. WS that didnt use tp, combined with ones that did, self skill chains and MBs, altering of skill sets and stats on the fly. MANY skills, every level, of varying use. actually going out and hunting skills in the environments, melee mage done well.
But blumage is closer to the playstyle we have now.
We ll have to agree to disagree, because though i could go through how boring i felt it was apparently you loved it. Ill just say a system built around waiting for the exact same tp, and doing the exact same skill for any level range and then waiting for tp to come back so you can do it again was, to me, boring as heck.
