i just wish their was a way to turn it on/off that's the main reason i fall away from games is the battle is to boring u click the target then wait and every once in awhile hit a skill or 2 so i hope that since it is here that they do a good job at spicing it up *fingers crossed*

YES TO AUTO ATTACK~
The problem with the current system is the need for TP to use other abilities. If all those abilities were available from the start and placed on a cool down there wouldn't be need for an auto attack.
But currently you play dance dance revolution with this battle system and you know what. IT IS NOT FUN FOR ME! and it's not fun for many other people.
And for those of you thinking that all you will do is watch the battle progress while you do nothing else....GET A CLUE! you will have input on other aspects for the battle, you just let your auto attacks take place of your TP gaining abilities. You have control of everything else.
Im guessing you re one of the people who want less direct input in battle, and more simulation style play, where you tell it to do something once in awhile? maybe write some timed macros. Thats fine for you, i can understand your need, i seriously hope you never get your way though, i find simulation rts style combat with only control of one player to be intensely boring. They really need to make two play modes, because the simulation style people and the manual descison people will never see eye to eye.

why exactly are your WS useless? they have the same stamina cost, do more dmg, and add effects? what about your abilities? i think way too many people are fighting weak stuff, you realize if combat is nothing but smashing 1 button... combat with auto attack will be nothing but smashing one button.... very rarely?and here, how it is as lnc:

This still wont solve your boring combat issues, what will make your combat better is more difficult monsters, i am sure its not a lack of available skills, because we have a great number of skills available, with varying effects and uses, and yall still dont care about em.
Anyhow AA is coming, i hope the other battle mechanics they put into place are engaging and useful, because ffxi, i played it recently and its really not entertaining combat, to me anyway.

Sadly, i think i have done more dodore uraeus goblin and all that boring stuff more than you....
and i know how lnc works...Im a fckng nerd when it comes to "how my class should be used to be on top"....
with SS white dmg gives you more dps, use ws is useless since the animations are too slow and the little dmg bonus you get from a ws will be lost.
make animations faster or better, change the ws's algoritm, the multiplier is a joke, let them crit and let them get DA(when the DA will be in game)....
doomspike 1(r12 ws) does the same dmg as doomspike II (r32 ws) and chaos strike (r50 ws)..... and CS does only same dmg as DS when the mobs healt is under 20%....
my friendìs victimize I&II does same dmg as my DS, when he gets the debuff's bonus.... i have 199 attack...he has 160....
Im wondering if the old dev team calculated the battle system's algoritms during a spring break party....
physic...not to be rude, but i think dev should listen to people who know the game, and not from people, who think to know, how the game works...
on topic: AA is subjective, Ill for sure dont try to make you like it, but i think its a good way to try change things, hope SE will do a good job.
