You don't need to settle on one specific role for your entire time in the game. For me it was easy because I found I liked Gladiator in the beta.

I will say that it's probably in your best interests to pick one of the classes you've tried so far and get it to 50 and get the story done. You can always go back and level other things. The main reason for this is just so that you are not missing out on mythology tomestones.

After years of playing all kinds of MMO's, I've discovered that healing is my call. So I've started this game as a Conjurer. Got the Whitemage crystal and leveled to 35. After that I thought, hmm so let's give Scholar a try. So I've started leveling an Arcanist. Picked up Thaumaturge as well along the way. So I could unlock both Scholar and Summoner. So there I am. Having a 36 Scholar & Summoner. Only to discover that Summoner can't use Conjurer cross skills. So I went leveling an Archer to get access to more cross class skills. Little bonus that if I should decide to level up Thaumaturge further later on, I can get access to Blackmage. I switch a lot between the classes, but so far like Scholar best.

Haha well I suck at certain things, like lancer for instance. I need it though for the Monk job, just a few more levels. And certain races are better for some classes than others. They don't come right out and state it but there are hints.

think about what type of role you wanna be or what type of role which suits your style

Tank and tank and tank, haha I can't die = paladin
Less tanky but with lots of life leeching = Warrior
bashing up enemies face to face with your fist or weapon with lots of challenge in dodge= monk/dragoon
prefer spacing away from enemy while dealing super damage = black mage
some support skills while dealing heavy damage in distance = bard
i like minions and i like to bleed enemy to death with DOTS skill = summoner
i wanna keep my team alive at all cost = white mage/scholar

I personally am exp with the ranged dps (smn), but im trying to learn more on the tanking side now. Healing I'm average but still not skilled enough for high lvl action. I figure with tanking id start in low lvl dungeons and as I progress move on to higher lvl areas. I may be over lvled for these places but gotta start somewhere. class and job are:
