Micromanagement is tedious and not fun and therefore not a solution. Some people may enjoy it, as there is always someone who enjoys anything, but I'd wager the far greater majority do not.
It is also not feasible to require micromanagement in a game built around and where a large portion of players use a controller to play.
Does fine micromanagement skills make you a better player? Absolutely that is the case, but you should not be put in a situation where you are excluded from social content based on this factor alone.
