My ports are open too.
Sometimes it takes me 15 min. Sometimes it takes 1:30 when people say it took them 20 min.
I think my geographic location has something to do with it. XI was worse, though. MUCH WORSE.

This thread is almost deceptively hilarious
Yeah, I've had ports open since the first days of October. Most patches take me 40-90 minutes.
My download fluctuates from 0-350kB/s, and upload stays at a constant 130-150kB/s.
Running uTorrent it never takes more than 5-10 minutes, and I can download at a steady 500kB/s++
For a few people, opening ports fixes everything.
My german friend has ports open, and FFXIV's downloader takes 5-7 hours for him. Seriously- he started downloading, went to bed, and when he woke up 7 hours later it was around ~90%.
Not to mention most students behind campus firewall can't torrent...but I'm getting off topic -.-
Edit:
I hadn't even noticed...you made me laugh out loud.

They haven't blocked other torrent clients. I imagine it was some sort of glitch, downloading it right now just to check. Though not as many seeds today, possibly due to people thinking it isn't working.

I think I'll pass. I took one look at the patch notes and wondered why the hell doesn't my mouse let me scroll down to see mo... and then I realized THIS IS IT?! Good one SE. Wait am I going to wait a day for that to DL? I think no.
From pre-patch thread Ahhahahahahahahhahahahaaa I laughed so hard tears ran down my legs!^ This. Only good things can come too us from 1.17b and onward, the drought is over. Some of you don't see that, but the drought is really over.

Im not sure why people thought 1.17b would have substantial content, when they've been hyping 1.18 and saying substantial additions wouldnt be in until the combat system. Now if you wanna go dat diving, thats another thing.I think I'll pass. what i don't get, is why such a tiny patch (fix wise) that it is 330MB... my guess is they either snook something in or that they're starting to make a habit of updating the last update ¬_¬

For those of you having issues, this is how I fixed it. If you don't understand a step, google it or check portforward.com for more info.
1. Each machine that is used to play FFXIV needs either a static local IP or a reserved dynamic IP (easier to use reservations for wireless connections). This is required so that when you forward or open a port it goes to the proper machine, and it won't change. This is an important step and should not be skipped.
2. Open FINAL FANTASY XIV Config. Click General. On UPnP Port mapping select "Do not use" (This is a feature the updater uses to automatically open the ports in your router and point them to your current IP, and it does not work properly) After you select "Do Not Use" The port number turns from grey to black, and you can change it. Keep this window open.
3. Go to C:\Users\Username\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV\downloads (Windows 7, may be a different location for you) and open the UPnP Port mapping file. After "External Port" there is a number. Write it down.
4. Go back to the config window left open and type that port number into the box labeled Port(55296-55551). I don't know why I did this, but it makes me feel good to have these numbers agree with each other.
Now we have the groundwork needed to get this update (and the game) running well, a static port opened and a static IP address to point to. Time for the last step, forward the port we wrote down to the IP address we set up as the static IP.
5. Figure out how to forward ports with your router, and then forward the ports in your router!
Some people are suggesting to just open/forward all of the ports in the range the game uses, and this is a bad idea imo, especially if you are trying to play on more than one machine, it is impossible afaik to forward a port range to more than one machine. So a quick sum up:
1. Static IP
2. Static port (number used from UPnP file)
3. Static port forwarded to static IP
Hope this helps!
