What is the Obsession with player base?

Why do people seem to have this construed way of thinking when it comes to player base? A game does not have to be as large as WoW, or successful as WoW, or have as many subscribers as WoW to work. Neither does a game need to keep a large % of the initial launch rush of players to stay afloat.

Final Fantasy ARR is doing very well right now. If you take the time to post on these forums to complain about the subscription numbers, then you can be spending just as much time promoting the game somewhere else. Doing so will actually help this game more then anything you could post on here.

-No Content
-Players are leaving
-Not enough variety
-This game is doomed if x doesn't happen
-Game X did that so why can't you
-The community is the worst
-The server are always down when I want to play

and so on. Only thing you can do is ignore it. Always keep in mind people who have nothing to complain about are not as active on the forum

To be fair, sometimes a lot of those posts are pretty accurate. I remember a lot of those posts from 1.0 and SE shut down the game and remade it, so apparently the posters were on to something. Also, your post has absolutely nothing to do with the OP, and now mine doesn't either.

OP: People want validation of their choice in video game and looking at subscriber numbers is a misguided attempt to get it. There are some legitimate concerns like if the game has enough subscribers to stay afloat and continue to develop content.

WoW has exponentially more subscribers than most F2P games have active accounts. That doesn't stop the doomsayers every week from popping up.

Alot of people here played, liked and enjoyed World of Warcraft, and simply left because their time with it was over. These people are not toxic in any way, shape or form.

For some odd reason it's the 'in thing' to be seen to disapprove of WoW at every turn.

Including WoW; you had those SAME threads on the vanilla WoW boards, and on every expansion the game has ever had, the same threads crop up.
