Heavy Armor in this game makes my eyes bleed

Vanity (cosmetic) gear is coming in 2.1.

I don't like the tank gear as you indicated, but I also was hellbent on finding ways around it.

Made sure I got my Cavalry set from Brayflox's Long stop, which carried me with little issue all the way to AF at 45 (cavalry gear is lvl 34 and really quite good).

Also, there are ways of getting around the Dark Light gear as well, it just requires people to not scoff at your iLvl.

This advice is useless for those running the coil. It has nothing to do with people scoffing at your iLvl and everything to do with using completely inferior gear for the content.

I find it highly unlikely that we'll get more variety in the 1-50 armor, only a few new armor sets with each release of new end game tiers.

Which is unfortunate. The lack of armor variety in this game is by far one of my greatest disappointments with ARR.

What really sucks is even though I got an allagan body piece to drop in the coil I had to upgrade my helmet to AF+1 to really get the best out of the upgrade. It forces you to upgrade both at once. This type of armor needs to go away forever.

Yeah... I don't really get it either. It also makes comparing stats on gear pretty clunky. You have to do a lot of math to see if chest + helm separately is better than your combined piece.

You have to admit that the suits actually look like they would protect someone.

However it's true the look gets old after a while.

Armor customization should have been included in the revamp of the game in the first place. The rather ugly outfits of all armor ranges is probably the one greatest problem I have with FFIX. I don't see the point of the rather nice character customization options of you have .. that you don't see because most of the armor looks like tin cans or flour sacks.

I don't mind it too much. I just wish I could at least turn my head so I'm not staring at the ground in combat. Would also be nice if the helms at least looked different between suits, other than sticking a couple useless blades on it and calling it Darklight.

I haven't even worn that type of armor yet its so ugly, just rocked my AK gear until I could afford the AF2, I suggest you do the same if it bothers you that much.

I did the same. I finally got that valor coat today. I also did first turn of coil fully expecting the chest to drop so I can kick myself. It didn't, I got a neck piece instead

Ohh man. I've been avoiding those trash cans like the plague. In fact, I haven't ever equipped one and I'll do everything in my power so that I never do.
