What is the stance on the Devs about a PVP "driven" ARR for the future?

This is not a rant, just a genuine concern about this game direction.

Have the Devs mentioned if they plan to make this game PVP oriented?
WoW, IMO made that mistake, where PVP, gear, seasons etc marked the future and tendency of the game.

And they left the PVE side of the gamea bit unattended.
I fear that now that SE is targeting a larger audience they might follow this path and leaving the PVE, lore, story side of the game a bit on the loose end.

    Any idea on this?

From all dev letters and information given, PVP will be set to specific places, areas and zones. It will not affect anyone who doesn't want to participate in it, and the main storyline will never force anyone, either.

I wouldn't worry about them ignoring PVE content in favor of PVP. I think we'll get a healthy dose of both, but a larger scale on PVE based on all information given so far.

The devs have stated that PvP will have no affect on PvE at all, and will never be enforced. They did mention some kind of 'front lines' areas, but that'd be the closest it'll get, from what they've indicated. PvP will have separate gear, and all abilities will be separate, so that they either simply only exist in either PvE or PvP but not both, or the same skill will behave differently between the two.

    That's what I've gathered, anyway.

From what I've seen, the concept of PvP as a focus for the Dev's can be summed up in one word. Meh...

    Always remember the Silver Rule:

    ^This.

    Completely different, gear & skills.
Basically rework all classes, skill tree/progression and balance from ground up? (Or do a have ass job of it? PvP 1.0 then PvP 2.0 Reborn again?)
    SE wants double work load?

Clearly, PvP was not in their minds when the game was designed from the start.
Or it was a massive oversight (which might be it - I believe that was called "1.0").

But I see some class skills that looks like PvP orientated skills.
So it may be that PvP is for the expansion after level cap is raised opening up Lvl 50+ skills, which may be PvP stuff.
Dividing the game into Lv1-50 PvE & Lv51+ PvP?

Bottom line is, good PvP content is good.
But no expectations until further official notice.

FF is a PvE centric game as far as I know. PvP will be present, but can be practically avoided if you so choose. I mean, they are giving all classes specific pvp skill sets, so that there tells me there will be a definitive line dividing the two parts of the game.

Will pvp be a focal point? I doubt it, but it will definitely be a feature advertised.

From the comments I've read, they've said PvP doesn't really fit in with the Final Fantasy franchise and is being tolerated for market reasons.

Which is a shame, since PvP is the cheapest content to make with the most reusability. It lets the players entertain themselves.

I think the game is already losing subs due to the lack of PvP and the extremely narrow end-game.

PvP is far from a big reason that lack of subs would occur in a game. If people pick up a strictly PvE game, for PvP, then get disappointed at a lack of PvP... I think it's understandable to just call them "stupid". That's like going into a store that only sells blue colored things, and complaining that they don't sell goods in red color. People don't sub for many reasons, often a combination of them. Most common is financial, work, or the game itself. Mind you, that last one isn't necessarily exclusive to content reasons, as this game could just be too slow-paced for them (nothing to do with content).

Not saying lack of PvP doesn't have a hand in it, as you indicated with the narrow endgame mention, but it's far from significant. Even when PvP is introduced, I have a feeling that it's not gonna be what people think it is. At first (basically for a long while), it'll be 4v4 Arena/Team style PvP (for now). It's not gonna be a large scale (soloable) battleground, it'll be organized team play, just like your typical DF group. So... unless you do a pre-made, you're gonna be partnered with those people you find in random DF! Have fun! Thankfully, the system is supposed to match random vs random, and pre-made vs pre-made... I think. So I guess as dysfunctional as your random group might be, your opponents will likely be in the same boat.

Even though FF11 was their most profitable game ever and didn't have real PVP? Sure. I can see wanting it, but it's naive to say it'll fail without it.
