There are guides out there for what the stat caps are, if that's all you're concerned about. Also, you must have some mad money making skills to be able to get 3 million gil without any crafting/gathering...Honestly, I'm not big on crafting. I never have been in MMOs. So I make my money buy leve quests. I'm not loaded by any means. 3 mil gil is nothing in this game at this point with repair bills, teleportation fees, etc. I'f I'm going to spend the money, I was also trying to find a guide of what can be melded to it and what's a waste. As stated before, I don't want to buy the materia, see that the stat is already max, and have wasted a meld.
Sell coke or potash. Once you get enough gil, you can also play the market. Buy low and sell high. Lastly, you can sell materia. No crafting or gathering needed. It's not that hard, but you have to be constantly watching prices of stuff.
Goldsmith Level 20 Levequest making the HQ brass rings for GS spamming it over and over again 99 times makes me a decent living in the game. and selling all my Materia III I SB to my gear helps.
What else would you spend the gil on? Honestly, there's not much else if you're not into crafting right?
My logic 2 months ago: Okay I need a relic and sexy gear. Relic is 900 tomes and will allow me access to sexy content. Need that first. DL requires tomes: fook that. (You have 3 million, you can buy the materials for leves and lvl 6 crafts from 0-50 in probably 2 weeks playing casually). So I crafted my gear, got relic with tomes, went to T1 of the coil and got allagan body first time.
Vanya is and always will be superior to Darklight.
Darklight Robe of casting: VIT32 /INT33/ Accuracy43/ Spell Speed30
Vanya Robe of Casting (with the Proper meld): VIT+20/INT+20/Accuracy+27/Determination+13 --- Meld with Crit +27 / Determination +5 (Total 18 DET)
Vanya Hat of Casting (With the Proper Melds): VIT +12/INT+12/Crit +11/Determination+11 --- Meld with Accuracy +16 / Crit +5
Vanya Combo Totals: VIT+32/INT+32/Accuracy+43/Determination +29/Critical Hit Rate +43
For the loss of a single INT, you gain 29 Determination and 43 Critical Hit rate. That 29 DET far overpowers a single INT, let alone the crit rate is the main sell point alone even if it didn't have the Determination on it.
So far this is the most useful post. Thank you very much, this helps.Vanya is and always will be superior to Darklight.

Go to DL lady, screen shot DL piece X, go to AH, screen shot Vanya HQ piece X. Melding multiple IV onto Vanya will run you an extra 150k/materia. Not counting the guy you have to pay to meld it. You could do all of this yourself though for less than a tenth of the cost in a relatively short amount of time and set yourself up for when the lvl cap is raised and all of this gear is worthless.
Np, after the head and the body the hands are the next biggest upgrade. Since the darklight Legs, Feet and Waist have crit rate on them already, I'd just stick with those DL pieces until Allagan. Realistically, you can meld any piece of vanya to exceed it's DL counterpart, but not all of them are as extreme of a difference as the Head/Body/Hands. The waist I think is 2 DET and 12 Acc over the Darklight, and the Legs you shouldn't even bother. The main reason for that is because it needs 18 Potash and 9 Animal fat to complete, and no matter how you spin it, Allagan will always be better. Since items bind to you and can no longer be sold, those 5 meld 5mil+ in value pants have the sad destiny of a Fire materia III. It's just not worth it.
