Anyhoo, I think this is a good idea. We need actual variation in class abilities in my opinion. If you see 4 WHM's with the same gear, there wont be any difference between them maybe besides materia, which dcoesn't really change or adapt spells to fit a new purpose. If they can make blue/purple only materia that changes skills, like say after your regen ends, your target is healed for 25% of the damage actually healed, or you gain x% defense everytime you are hit while using rampart for 10 seconds, stuff like that. Allow people to branch off a bit more so each class by class comparison isn't so generic.

If they add a merit system similar to Xi, you'll get the ability to customise your skills.

Seriously, do you understand how ridiculous the "WoW clone" argument is? As has been already said, just because it's in WoW doesn't mean it's the devil and a terrible idea. There are some absolutely amazing ideas in that game, some of which are this one.

WoW popularized the quest-driven, GCD-combat, gear treadmill MMORPG. Which is exactly what we were given for FFXIV: ARR. Spouting a series of stupid one-liners doesn't change the fact that the game IS in many ways a copy of the mold that WoW immortalized, and to think otherwise is simply being in denial.
