People won't complain about crap and if they do it is no different about them complaining before or after, I just like to know what is coming out it builds excitement, hell I actually want to say FFXI had some sort of notes prior to release on playonline.com before it would come out, and in a sense we do it get but we get the broad idea of what is due to come out over the next couple months.

Haven't noticed it on any MMO? You must have only played FFXI. I seen it on EQs, WoW, and many other MMOs I have played.

    Funny thing about this sentence:

If someone "only played FFXI" it's well known SE throws out teasers of updates prior to the forum opening when there's an update near by, e.g every week or two weeks there's another blurb about what's in the upcoming (month) update, i.e Besieged got a spread about it, Salvage got a spread and so on. So if someone did only play XI, they would have seen "patch notes before the actual patch."

Most MMOs I currently play, as said:

I haven't seen this to be honest. A lot of MMOs I currently play put up patch notes after the patch goes live, just before the patch goes live or in a forum topic about what MAY be coming to the JP/NA/EU version that have already been released on the Korean/Chinese client.
I actually play non mainstream MMOs, so I'm pretty sure I've seen a wide variety of "Patch etiquette."

    Big updates? yes
    Little patches? no

That about sums it up. People are very selective when it comes to comparing things to FFXIV. Most MMOs have large updates hyped over time because it sometimes takes them up to a quarter of a year to push it out.

Though this was an idea for the Dev team not a discussion. Guess I should put it where it belongs

I believe it was said before that they don't release the official patch notes because there are certain people out there that would take advantages of the game if they knew what was coming.

One example would be people trying to take advantage of the market, buying up all of a particular component that is currently cheap pre-patch, then marking them up outrageously post-patch because of a new recipe being introduced.

In addition to that, sometime things don't always go as planned. In software industry, something get cut last minute due to what issue or possibly the whole patch being rolled back due to instability.

Patch notes can't be put up earlier, what happens if they put up patch notes and at the last minute find a server breaking bug and have to back out some change in the patch notes? You people would freak out because you didn't get what was promised.

No one is complaining *** it was just a idea. I like to read the patch notes prior to the release because I may have to go to work or go somewhere I don't have access to them, I was simply asking put them up the same day they go up maybe at beginning of the day. I guess people wouldn't like that idea because it would be similar to what WoW does.

Servers go down at 2PM PDT. Patch & Patch Notes are posted between 2:30-3:00PM PDT. Servers don't go back up until 5PM PDT. Now I may have my quantum physics calculations wrong but I do believe you STILL GET THE PATCH NOTES PRIOR TO RELEASE.
