clustering and redundancy is cool, it lets you reboot machines without impacting end users. The fact they keep needing to take the game offline for what in essence I am reading the maintenance notes as a reboot to fix a memory leak is getting old.
Lie to me tell me its to combat RMT that would make the community happier than 'um servers feel kind slow, were are going to try poking it with a stick to see if that fixes it' which is what a 'to alleviate stress' means to me.

They come always during or after the maintenance
You can find them here: http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/news/category/3
Or do you expect that they bring the bug fix list before the maintenance to give players some stupid ideas and time to fulfil the ideas?

Hopefully they get rid of some more rmt accounts while they're at it.

Sigh... stop crying about maintenance. You guys sound like a bunch of addicted kids who's sole purpose in life is to log in and play FFXIV. Go do something else during maintenance and let them fix the broken crap.
It is what it is. Maintenance won't be going away and how they do it won't be changing. You can make these posts and complain all you want. All your going to do (if you get a response at all) is push back a years worth of content while they completely redesign the game client, the launcher, and the backend servers to allow for an in place patching system.
Do you want to play the game 90% of the week and get new content in a month, or do you want to play the game 24/7 on the same content for a year?
Most of these maintenance are happening to prevent bigger problems.
They aren't applying content fixes, When they do they address that in the maintenance notes.
I personally haven't been effect by maintenance times in 3-4 weeks.
As for FFXI
They patch ones every 45-90 days. And when they patch there is a week of 3-5 fixes.
That is the goal of any MMO, Get it to the point that where they are only patching once a month and on a said date.

well, reading what they are planning to do sometimes help instead crying the game will have a maintance
http://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...be457f567190b7In order to address high server stress, we will be performing maintenance on all Worlds at the following time. During this period, FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn will be unavailable.
that mean enpowering servers to take care of the spikes of lags they occur when the server are over-populated, like weekend and monday when reset of mythology and binding coil occurs. But go on, it's better whining of maintances instead be happy they fix shit.

No reboot takes 3 hours. Even the largest blade centers reboot in 20 minutes (unless the'ye Hyper-V based, then you're just lucky if it reboots at all). The time delay speaks of database updates to me - but that's just conjecture.

It's right when my play time starts/ends again, but it's alright, fix is needed so it's a good thing.
I just hope it fixes some lag issues instead of making it worse like it has been in every last recent maintenances... ><
It's not emergency maintenance if it's announced and planed a day or two in advance. What is the emergency that has to be fixed...tomorrow? Since it's not a real emergency, why are they not just doing what almost every other AAA mmo does and have one weekly maintenance. They've now done 5 maintenance's in the past 6 days.
Sure, if there is a real emergency take the servers down now and do what needs to be done. But the fact that they are okay with whatever it is until 24-48 hours from now means they could just wait a couple of more days until the standard weekly maintenance day and fix it then.
No one is arguing that issues should not be fixed, or that maintenance should not be done. What people are complaining about is the fact that they are doing a maintenance almost every other night. None of these are real emergencies since every one is a *scheduled* emergency maintenance. They could have just waited until tomorrow and done them all at the same time.
