    You can name your Chocobo, everyone gets one at level 20-odd and everyone gets the ability for it to fight with you at level 30-odd (from a quest called "My Feisty Chocobo"). I'm sure it would be nice to have other pets to fight with you, but it would make Arcanists/Summoners/Scholars so over powered if they could have a pet, chocobo and their summon, they'd be a walking 4 man team.
    Also the Chocobo's name does appear above it's head when you summon it to fight with you and it levels up (granted incredibly slowly).
    What you seem to be describing is basically a Hunter from WoW and I'm pretty sure SE wouldn't be able to get away with making a class basically EXACTLY the same as the Hunter from WoW.
