    Please Sell Manipulation To Me

    Hi Guys,

Just finished getting my first craft (Weaver) to 50.. did this after getting all classes to 15 naturally..

But I also did it without using Manipulation.. but all the guides seem to suggest Manipulation is the one to use over masters mend..

So why is it so good?

Masters mend (on a 40 craft) allows me to get to 10 durability before hving to refresh. whereas manipulation you need to be on 20 minimum otherwise it fails before it gives you extra durability..

So aside from the 4CP difference.. why is it favoured?

Manipulation is only slightly better than Master's Mend. Its pros:
    1. It's slightly cheaper, as you noticed
    2. If you get to 10 durability (for Master's Mend) and suddenly get an Excellent, it is wasted because you MUST use Mend. If you get to 20 for Manipulation, if there is an Excellent, you can still take advantage of it and do Master's Mend instead, otherwise you use Manipulation. So it leaves you a little more flexibility.

There are of course also disadvantages:
    1. As you noticed, you need to use it at 20 and not 10 durability.
    2. When you turn it on at 20/40, you NEED to do at least one progress/quality step, otherwise you will waste one tick of Manipulation. This is not a big deal but still something to keep in mind.

So - IMO -Manipulation's advantages make it slightly better than Master's Mend and I use it almost exclusively on 40 durability recipes (these 4 CPs add up). However, using Master's Mend instead is fine too if you aren't 15 GSM. It's not a game changer.

You can use Manipulation at 10 or 5 Durability. You just need to make sure that your next ability is a buff (Great Strides, Steady Hand, etc) or any other ability that doesn't eat durability (like Observe).

Manipulation is simply more flexible than Master's Mend when it comes to when you can/should activate it in relation to the other buffs you have up.

Master's Mend is rigid. If Excellent pops up at 30 Durability and you're sitting on Poor at 20, you either waste a third of Master's Mend and use it there, take the hit and use a touch action on Poor (assuming you can't use a Synth because you'll one shot the 40 Durability craft) which isn't too awful since it builds Inner Quiet and you should've just offset it with the quality boost from Excellent, or find a buff to use to make Poor go away that may waste some of the duration it already has.
