Brief Guide to How Heals Work

I wrote this guide for an FC tank who wants to know more about how healing works this game. It's more of a "how it is done," as in end result-oriented, than "how to do it," or method-oriented. The information comes from my experience as a whm and scholar as well as in-game observation/forum/reddit wisdom. The claims of "common" or "average" made in the guide are not necessarily accurate. Consider them rhetorical.

The first part of the guide addresses the skills available to each job. The second part discusses healing related strategies for each turn in Coil. I will add information about other fights if there's a demand for it.

Really well-written summary of the healing for both jobs.
Can be used as orientation for non-healers and as an introduction for healers.

    Good job. ^-^)b

I rarely give thought to Aetherflow charges and this guide helps. Here are some of my thoughts.

While Sacred Soil is likely the least MP efficient use of a charge and Lustrate the most efficient, I think there is a scaling of utility/peace of mind vs pure MP/healing efficiency.

For example, the 10% mitigation of Sacred Soil may help to put the other healer and the tanks at ease, by cutting back on severe damage.

Along this scale, Energy Drain's typical 250-300 mp return is slightly more efficient, but only really gives the SCH peace of mind by keeping MP high.

At the other end, Lustrate is the most MP efficient, but in order to maximize its efficiency, needs to be used when the tank is below 2/3 to 3/4 of their max HP (or more, if we're wary of Fairy and secondary healer overlapping cures). This definitely places a little more tension when we have to let the tank drop low to maximize our Aetherflow charges.

This can really apply to healing in general, of course. For example, regen works best when everyone is not topped off, but seeing the party's HP bars below max produces just a little more anxiety.

Fairly good guide, but I had no idea what the term "induct" meant. I'm guessing this is some term used in another MMO? From context I'm assuming you meant "To use a heal that has a cast time"? Just heal in general?

Yes, as you say, induct means to use a skill that has a cast time. I thought "induct" would be shorter than this phrase and clearer than a mere "cast" as "cast" can refer to instant skills as well. But will edit guide accordingly,

    This is a fantastic post.

Now if only we could get other Tanks and DPS to read this and understand it because not everyone comprehends the logic behind Faster Kills = Faster Dungeon farming.

I often get slammed in DF just because I assist in making the kills faster. I know how to manage mp and check my enmity level. If it hinders the group in no way, why bitch?

    Thanks for the info.

Yeah, I just have never heard it used before in that way. While there is a dictionary definition of the term, it means to basically bring someone into a position, like "Induct him as leader" or "inducted him into the order"

Should I do this: The pet is an integral part of the sch. Manual embrace would go a long way as the pet does not automatically heal persons above 80% or so hp. Note . . .

Or this:Therefore, to use Eos, one from a Steady state use Rouse - Fey Illumination (if available, or if not) - Whispering Dawn, then back to Steady. Be sure to only Steady after the Whispering Dawn cast (2s) is finished, otherwise one would not receive the hot, but the skill would go off cd. . .

I find it hard to manual embrace and manage those 3 skills. Right now I'm just doing manual embraces while she randomly uses her 3 skills while on guard. Is that fine..?
btw is there a macro to mouseover Embrace?

If you are busy, only manual embrace Selene as she doesn't need to be steadied (unless saving Fey Light for physical dps). For Eos, be wary of manual Embrace when whispering dawn is off CD as it will trigger the hot without the Rouse/Fey Illumination buffs, and is therefore not worthwhile. I would manual Embrace when Eos's cds are on cd.

New Scholar question. I am pretty confused from simple situations and just want some insight. Lets take a hypothetical realistic situation, the tank is cornered while boss rear exposed for DPS. As a healer I feel comfortable moving to the flank of the boss in clear visibility of the tank and DPS.

Now I know the tank is going to take some licks but nothing serious so I am just using Physic on response to keep him up. First question, do I use a heal every time the Tank is not 100% meaning he is at around 90% is it what I am supposed to do. I try to place my fairy near him as well and just let her do her thing(still getting comfortable controlling it). Now I know the tank is going to take a huge shot, but not sure when. What is the best course here for when he takes a huge hit dropping below 50%? I get frantic with my lack of healer instinct at the moment and lose sight of what to do, what should I do with Aether Stacks? When should I use Adlo? What about the Fairy? Any help on this?
