In terms of getting a larger audience:
Pros: Familiar game mechanics(at least for new FF-players)

    Cons: Predictable

I'd be bias to say FFXI was the best MMO I ever played. It felt like being in another world without limits or restrictions. It felt organic.

Pros: ARR has scenery and personality

Cons: Feels restricted and relatively small(with hopes for new zones)

Friends will come and go but the ones that stay will form memories and that is priceless:

Not to be that guy but I think this game needed a few more months under the sun.
It feels rushed...either rushed or played far too safe.
They had no choice but to play safe because 1.0 was such a huge friggin' fail.
But I wouldn't of mind a lil' but of TLC for a few more months.
Just lacks variety is all. I'm honestly not a person who cares for end-game gear.

But that's just it though... the game was rushed. SE lost millions of dollars in developing the first installment, that in order to save their beloved franchise they had to give the fans something worth playing. If they hadn't taken such an immediate round-turn on the game, they may never have been able to restore the game and the faith of the fans. As a result of their rush, the game as it stands (in my opinion) is incomplete and I also think that quests should be reset for each job. I loathe at the prospect of having to only FATE and dungeon grind each new job to max.

The only problems I personally have with this game right now are:

1.) Not enough instances, and the instances that there are (aside from AK and WP) all feel like "do em once and never again". Brayflox's has gear sets that you might want to get through multiple runs, but all of the other instances are 1 shot only affairs IMO.
2.) Not nearly enough quests from 45 on up, and not enough quests in general at all to level more than one job on a single character.
3.) FATES are too simplistic, even compared to Dynamic Events in Guild Wars 2, and they, as has been mentioned many times, give far too much exp for far too little effort.
4.) Levequests are garbage, especially GC Leve's. Both Seals and EXP are FAR more quickly gained FATE grinding.
5.) Itemization in this game is horridly bland. There are no weapon procs, no items with interesting effects analogous to trinkets in WoW, etc.
6.) The Materia system is woefully underdeveloped and utilized.
7.) The lag/positional update delay, bad netcode, WHATEVER is causing people with good connections and 60 FPS to get hit by attacks even when far out of the red, is absolutely stupid, and I've never seen it before in ANY mmo.

Pros: I've met players from other games asking for help, I help them enjoy the game. They also help me enjoy the game. Parties get bonuses so use it as much as possible.

Cons: You get a mix bag of opinion about the game, players quit for selfish reasons and bring a bad influence w/o creating solutions. Friends from old games are no longer around due to the server-data center relationship. Users want a good PING.

NOT much more to share. The only way to further your experience in this "Main-stream MMO" is to immerse yourself some more. Play in part-mode more. oh...!

    Party mode:
Pros: Grants you bonus exp and maybe more if your fighting a tough mob!

Cons: No open dungeons or zones to go to for a full advantage of the party system. ARR funnels players into the duty-finder to get exp and gear.

Final Fantasy 11 has to be my best example to use as a standard(well, until Abysea came around). It had story and quest and environments and mystery and lore. Though now you can look up all the information about it, much you answers would have to come from friends, link shells or from shouting. Not because you were lazy and it wasn't online for research, it was because things in FFXI was really a mystery! You either too new to know about things or you just wasn't there t learn.
ARR hands everything to yo on a plate and your well served. Eat up!

You're just offering generic answers, and I want concrete answers specifically pulled from ARR. I can understand the appeal of similar game mechanics - in fact, it is quite appealing for Batman: Arkham Origins. However, your statement on ARR's scenery should only have a minimal impact on gameplay honestly. Don't get me wrong, I love a game with stunning visuals, but even if the game were to have the best graphics, those graphics would be irrelevant if server lag was a constant nuisance (which it is on fights like Demon Wall). More than anything, it sounds like you just love the franchise, and really pull for it - which is commendable, I don't hold that in ill regard. You also like playing with friends - so do I. In fact, some of my favorite moments on MMOs were playing with friends... discovering new quests, zones, bosses with friends. In fact, I've played throughout my MMO career with co-workers and its always fun to go to work and talk about the fight. However, you are not addressing the inherent simplicity of the game both in boss mechanics, or in job mechanics.

That's all the answers Im going to satisfy your thirst with. Though I do think more work should go into mob detection and behavior and more 50+ mobs need to be added outside dungeons.

What I find fun works for me. What may work for me might not work for you and thats fine, I don't / shouldn't expect the game to change to please either audience.

I do not feel you even understand what you are trying to say. Others voice their opinion on how the game is boring as hell, you say you find enjoyment in helping people and doing random things. No one is going to try to tell you that you should not do those things, but they are by no means content as far as any MMO is concerned.

From what I have seen of your character's jobs and their gearing you are rather detached from any aspect of actually properly gearing your character, which shows you have decided not to participate at all in the speed run gear grind to equip your character with the best available gear outside coil.

If this was your way of making the game interesting to yourself, then I am sure everyone is quite happy for you. It is however not a recipe or even an interesting solution to any of the complaints or issues found in this thread. So again what was your point besides listing common sense phrases?

And to others mentioning PVP.... if you have been playing the same game as I have been, what in the HELL do you have to look forward to in pvp. The clunky combat is hardly even playable in a predictable PVE environment and you are excited for pvp.... lol

The problem with this game is that it's entirely too linear for an MMO. Dungeon progression and gear progression go along on a single track and there's no reason to branch off from that track, in fact it's detrimental if you do.

There are distractions, like crafting and soon housing and PvP, but simply having distractions doesn't make for a very open MMO.
