And this isn't just a game, it's also a world. So convenience of gameplay isn't always the most important consideration.
That's not really the point I was trying to communicate. Instead of focusing on minor aspects of the atmosphere of the game, right now the focus should be on the biggest aspects of the gameplay including long term goals, the battle system, accurate risk vs reward systems and other parts of the game that we're going to spend a long time actually working on.

Well I do not dispute that fundamental systems like combat, and reward systems are important. But things like collision detection and mob behaviour are the result of broader concepts too.

Games are usually designed under the umbrella of big concepts. You would have hoped that with the amount of attention SE paid to certain aspects of FFXIV (such as crafting, gathering, and animations) that they were trying to bring the game to life in as many respects as possible. Bringing a game world to life is an over-arching concept unto itself, and not a small one by any means. It is a massive commitment, and one that pays dividends overtime.

Atmosphere may not be as immediate as combat etc. But MMOs arent purely combat-derivative, otherwise we wouldn't even have stories, lore, crafting.

Having character collision-detection and intelligent mob behaviour is likely a result of this attempt by SE at making FFXIV more realistic and multi-dimensional. So it's not necessarily micro-managing to question why these things are not being worked on nor why they were deleted entirely in the first place.
