Healing HUD/Debuffs

Is there a way to tell the difference in your party for what is a buff/debuff? Is there a way to clearly define a debuff through the HUD options?

Buffs are little arrows pointing up. Debuffs are little arrows pointing down.

The buffs vary in color and design, but all debuffs have very simple graphics and are dominated by a red color. The problem is that if a player has enough buffs on them, they may not always show the debuff on the party menu.
