    The food economy needs help!

    There's a strange problem with the culinary world and food use.

    You see food used to be kind of a big deal, but these days it seems like it's only used in coil regularly.

    Here's a few reasons why:

    Crafting top end foods requires a large amount of shards, making crafters generally sell foods at higher prices for very little profits.

    Players don't consume as much because the price is too high for the reward.

    When you DF you might wipe on the first pull so why waste the food right?

    There's a lot of reasons players don't use foods as regularly as we are used to seeing?

    What changes would you all like to see if any? Discuss!

    The reason you only see people in Coil using it is because it's a waste of money and not needed before that.

    I just think, rush to 50 crafts are sad because that's the only time they are useful.

    Because the buffs are so trivial its barely noticable. 3-8% buffs is pathetic, at the high end, food typically only buff 3-4% as well.

    As soon as SE fix the food system so that it gives 20-25% buffs like in FF11, you shall see massive demand for it from everyone, people leveling up will want to use to speed up kills, normal dungeon runners will use it, quicker run times etc and raiders will absolutely require the best. Obviously content needs to scale up in difficulty a bit to adjust. But the current system is underwhelming.

    You can make plenty of gil as a Culinarian, just don't bother making 45+ food - it's too expensive to craft and kind of pointless besides. Mid-level stuff like walnut bread, fried eggs, etc. bring in more than enough cash though, and it's one of the least boring/easier jobs to level, in my experience (especially if you've got a botanist or are leveling one).

    The OP speaks Truth, and as another poster highlighted this is one more crafting professions that has no value outside of a niche part of the game. Like a few other professions, culinary needs to be fixed in order for players to have more use of it trough every lvl bracket.
    Maybe increase yield of every synth and/or reduce mats required?

    If they doubled the duration of the food so it could last for a whole non speedrun'd dungeon via DF that would probably increase demand and be an alternate way to offset the shard cost.

    I like to use food but yup I just stick to the cheaper mid range stuff thats about 150-500g each. Only time I went overboard on food was on my bard alt with hq apkallu omelettes on titan for her relic fight because I really wanted that fight to be over with.

    Nah, what they need to do is bring back how useful food was in FFXI and XIV 1.2x - Look here:

    Go into Item > Dishes and you'll exactly how much better food was with the same durations. They need to redo the stats and % on some of the foods - I know he wants to follow certain MMO's design through and through but the food system in Xi and Xiv 1.x were actually..the most useful out of all MMOs I've played.

    I like the current crafting system, however I agree with what you stated about making food like XI and 1.2XX, also the alchemy thing was great for when you needed shards, would boost the perspective markets for said crafts too.
