Explaining the Term "Warriors of Light"

Every character made is a Warrior of Light, and participated in the past events (as far as the story goes). As indicated with Cid's flashback scene aboard the airship. ... all players' characters are the heroes from Carteneau, sent five years into the future.

I'm interested in whether or not this can even be true. The heroes at Carteneau were sent into the time rift by Louisoix at the end of the battle. The alternate introduction is the player coming out of said time rift. If every character ever made was supposedly at Cartenau... shouldn't every character's story begin coming out of the rift?

Actually that's not totally correct ... original Warriors of Light ... new Warriors of Light ... making the arguement irrelevant.

Just to make sure I'm not reading it wrong - a more elaborate way to arrive at the same conclusion, yes?
