This is particularly interesting considering that SWTOR is more profitable now, after going f2p, than they ever were while being p2p. So by the definition of success for games being profitability, SWTOR is more profitable now, and is more successful as an extension of that, than FF XI, EQ, SWG, UO, etc. etc. (simple math proves that fact).

The truth is, there are only two ways to measure MMO success: the first is profit, the second is popularity. By the profit measure, it's silly to point to games like SWTOR as failures; they're extremely profitable with their current marketing approach. By the popularity measure, then games like EQ or FF XI that had small audiences and kept them for over a decade were never all that successful (which isn't wholly true either).

So the problem in pointing out this or that game as a failure is that it's far too complicated to boil down to one statistic. The best we can do is estimate, and because this is based on guess work, often a person's own biases and tastes end up being far more important than any reasonable estimation of a game's success.

If you are in a race to the finish you can't really complain that its over. I mean for what you have done you required some serious commitment and time. The only suggestion I have is when 2.1 drops don't try to 'beat' it day 1.

This is a big reason why I stopped playing my 1.0 character. All battle classes to 50, all gatherers at 50, all crafters at 40+. (this was before ARR launch) I think I would be in the same boat as you had I continued on playing that char.

The problem I see is, there's little to no challenge or engagement in the dungeons. They are too easy, too fast, and the rewards are worse than the token items. There's next to no motivation to do anything other then the fastest dungeon for tomes. And the grind for tomes really doesn't take very long at all for 1 character.

This put people into raiding very quickly.(considering coil a raid and everything else dungeons)

Once into raiding, there's little to no reason to go back to dungeons past the 300myths/week, unless gearing alt classes. The dungeons are all ridiculously easy and you've already done them 50 times, and now you will continue to do the same dungeon that's the quickest.. because why wouldn't you.

So you're raiding, coil is challenging, and the only content that actually feels like progression, everything else is faceroll easy. I'm very happy with coil overall. The only problem is once completed, there's no challenging content in the game. I'm playing very very causally and the group I'm with downed turn 2, and basically the only thing I look forward to is doing coil. The game has a lot of potential, but I agree with OP, it's seriously lacking challenging content.

2.1 will help some.. but I feel for those already completing coil or close to it, since that'll still be the endgame for a long while if it's taking this long to release a raid that was already made but needed rebalance. ( which is further down from coil for progression).

For the amount of hours that I play every day, there is no one game that will have enough content for me unless it's been out for years before I played it. Even then, I would still run out of content eventually. That's why I just play other games as well to change it up. With the choices that we have these days, there's no reason to stick to just one game.

You can tell if the player is legacy if he has a joining date prior the launch of FFXIV ARR on the forums. For example, the guy above me registered on: Mar 2011.

I think of it this way. There're 10 Legacy servers VS 45 non-Legacy servers. Legacy players (not all of them) have their character from the 1.0 version of FF XIV. They did the content back then and when they made them start all over again, they let them keep their level and equipment. In a couple of weeks, there're nothing else to do, because all the content created for you was consumed fast because you were already equipped and you already had crafting classes. If you think like that, of those 55 servers, 45 were intended for new players or people who wants to re-roll their characters. You will see that they have still things to do (as myself, I don't think I would get to the next patch with all my equipment/classes/etc). I think the dev team should NOT have let the old players keep their stuff/level/classes. You could have a good montly fee, some items for being cool for paying the whole suscription back then and that's it. I don't care if you start with all your stuff, eventually I will get them too because there's a roof for improvement.

So, as the others said, come back when further content is added. That's the only advice we can give you, since the dev team already has a schedule for the next patches and they won't hurry those things up until everything is optimal. The rest of the users complaining about not having enough things to do, yeah, it might be. I can't tell because I still have things to do and I'm playing since BETA (As a brand new player). If you don't want to quit and you're looking for ideas on what to do: Help random people, chat with friends, help them out, increase your wealth. I don't know. Just good luck.

Holy- ... Wow OP. I don't understand half of what you said in your post aside from "all battle classes to 50." But...can I ask you for advice on how to level up fast? I'm finding it a VERY long road ahead, and I want to be prepared for the Lightning FATE on the 14th. There's been rumors that it might be a level 50 only thing

Anyways, please's and thank you's for any leveling advice!!

Like so many others have said, If you play the game THIS much, then no game in the world will ever keep you with enough content. So yeah, play other games inbetween.
At the rate some players, like yourself is going at. Not even if Yoshida released ARR with ALL the content scheduled until next Expansion on Launchday, it wouldnt be enough for you guys. This excessive hardcore gaming is getting a bit out of hand, sheeesh :/

Honestly everyone should just stop posting to this. IF you really think about it, in anyway logical. This person is either a VERY SERIOUS gamer and KNOWS this is what happens in games and fully understands it and is Completely and Utterly! Trying to get attention for his feats. OR he is just...that dumb to post on here that he literally has NO LIFE that consumes any part of his day other than be on here playing this game, and to throw it out for the crows on the forums to feast upon that is just plain insane. I am going for the former since I have seen how people are and most elitests Pretend to be in the shadows anyway. This guy is just wanting everyone to pay him due for his accomplishments of which there should be none paid. Everyone plays games differently this is just his way, No one credits us to our own accomplishments of how we play our way.
