    maintenance

these every two day maintenance are ruining the game. You can't take the game down every other day in prime time and expect people to pay 15 dollars a month for it. It's like every other night now. Really disgusting, I just log on to play and there's a maintenance for two hours in an hour. Disgusting, there was a maintenance two days ago, and one two days before that, and one two days before that. Seriously, what's the deal? Why am I paying 15 dollars a month for a game I can only play half the week?

I'll take an offline online game over a broken online game.
    ...Wait, what?

It's always prime time somewhere, and they have to do the maintenance. To be honest I'd rather the game goes down for an hour or two to fix issues than having them persist, but that's just me.

Ruining the game is probably a bit over the top. It's impacting your play time which is pissing you off. Not much more or less than that.

    15 dollars?

Also, maintenance and emergency maintenance happens in any MMO.

Unless you're playing GW2. In which case, enjoy your con...*giggles* tent...

i play in the day for a bit and i play at night. when it go's down every other night for 2-4 hours it just blows. At least wow maintenance (as an example) is once a week, set 8 hours and done. This 2-4 hour every other night stuff is really silly. And no, I don't want to play wow, but it's an example of a maintenance style that works. It's a set day, set time. And they don't break it. Once a week, 8 hours, every week. if there's hot fix stuff it's usually while it's still up or it go's down for like 10-15 minutes tops... The maintenance schedule here, well there is no maintenance schedule. They just take it down randomly every other day.

Well yeah if you're comparing it to WoW, then SE do their maintenance much differently.

There's no way there'll be weekly scheduled maintenance for XIV once it matures a bit, they'll do maintenance as little as possible. Sometimes with months in between. Just at this early stage of the game there are lot of things to address. It will get less and less frequent, people just have to learn to deal with it when it effects them. Once XIV stabilises the maintenance will be much less obtrusive than the weekly WoW outages.

No, they're not ruining the game, they're fixing things in the game. Seriously, if you can't handle a couple hours of downtime here and there...

Also, midnight is generally considered the end of prime time. Besides that, it's midnight pacific, which means the majority of the US is already well past prime time.

Anyway, as others have noted, FFXI often went weeks or even months with no downtime (though there was usually lots of downtime in the short term after new version updates). Such will likely be the case here once the game has matured more.

I don't think any reasonable person minds a weekly maintenance, what people mind, myself included is the 2-3 times a week maintenance. Some of us have day/swing shift jobs or live in different time zones where it is prime time: it's more difficult to be understanding when there is emergency maintenance so frequently.
