Well, there appears to be only one thing to do. Find a new game. I don't want to run anyone away from FFXIV, but the things you dislike about the game are the fundamental building blocks of most MMOs including this one.

People forget that MMOs are meant to be open ended. That's how they keep you paying your subscriptions. However, if you're not enjoying it don't keep paying and playing. There are MANY other games out there with more interesting storylines and more explicit goals to enjoy.
