If you could give one piece of advice to a new Healer, what would it be?

There are a lot of new players in this game, and a lot of old, old hands at the healing game here, too. I'm sure many of you remember the early times when you started healing, and all of the things you had to learn the hard way.

But, if you could give one piece of advice to a brand-new Healer, what would it be?

My advice would be: Remember that you can't heal through everything. More often than not, a wipe just isn't your fault (no matter what the DPS is yelling about).

My advice would be take anything here with a grain of salt, because healing is the kind of experience you learn from doing it, not reading about it. Each situation will adhere to a different type of healing mindset, and it's just not possible to explain them all because of how different players are, how they run dungeons or do events, and other factors. Reading up on it is nice, but true experience comes from doing, sometimes with failure, but eventually with success.

    If you're doing nothing, DPS.

If you have beef with this advice, take it to the DPS healer thread.

FFXIV imho, is one of THE funnest games to play a healer in. Both healing classes have the chance to attack against mobs, which makes the gameplay more enjoyable. There's no reason for ANY healer to sit idle during fights. Always try to stay on the move, while properly managing your mana. With the CNJ skill "Cleric Stance", it's probable that your damage will actually equal that of a DPS class (relative to the skills, of course. I'm not saying Ruin II is going to equal a flare or anything, but Holy sure can keep up with the best of em.)

As for my advice: Run your character as if it were Superman. Learn your limitations, and push yourself to utilize all the skills available to you.

My advice: Allow the tank time to build hate. He will be fine if his gear isn't garbage.

Learn the fights and prepare for things to happen before they actually happen. An example of this would be that I know that at exactly 16 sec on my succor during phase 1 of titan I know that I need to start casting succor again, because it will go off in the middle of tummults. Another one would be that I know that there is exactly 2 auto attacks after titan landslides in Phase 5 before he table flips, so I need to time a physick after the first one, and aldo after the 2nd one in preparation for the incoming table flip.

Remember that all your heals are situational and do not replace each other. Cure II is not meant to fully replace Cure, much like Medica II isn't meant to fully replace Medica. I see far too many healers do this and going oom regularly, or wasting the Regen effect of Medica II by chaincasting it.

Make sure regen is not on the tank when he pulls. Learn to time this by not using regen late in a trash fight.

In this game you can sleep more then just one mob at a time. First time in a dungoen and with an under geared group mass sleeping is your best heal.
