Its not like your 'hurting your group' that badly. Plus, by the time you've gathered enough tomes for the DL body, you can just get the accessories and everything else first then move right on to af2 for your body.
Don't get me wrong though, I personally hate the vanilla AF because its just so... overplayed. I liked rocking my WP gear for a while, as a tank you look just like a brass blades guard! Stats for the body was identical (literally. in every way) to af body though, so...

I'm fairly certain DRG can't wear DL whm robe only sch and whm can.

Pretty sure you didn't. I skipped the trash can DL chest/head and went straight to Myth pieces. I did sport the ugly Hoplite piece for a while though *shudder*
