Free Company Housing, Not Player Housing

I am very disappointed with the Player Free Company Housing system that is being implemented. This system effectively makes it so that only a relatively small group of players can use the housing system. From time of launch, myself and a friend have been saving Gil for the promise that a Player Housing system was coming soon.

It's great that over 400 items are being implemented and that crafters and gatherers will be receiving an influx of stuff to do. With that said, it sucks that your average player is going to be able to interact only with the creation of these items but not with any application of their use. The market for crafters is going to be smaller than it has to be too. This housing system is Free Company Housing, not Player Housing. The only players that will interact with the non item creation aspects of it are the FC Leader or FC Officers.

I sincerely hope that SquareEnix does not decide to ditch Player Housing in exchange for a Player Rooming system. The ability to be assigned / manage / create your own room within a Free Company house up to six months away from now is not interesting to me. I can understand how it may be interesting to some people, but I do not see it as a realistic alternative to actually possessing your own space. A room within a Free Company House can be (potentially) taken away on the whim of the people that manage the FC Home.

Player Housing is a minimum of 6 months away, if it is ever implemented. Is anyone else disappointed by this?

I wish we'd get them at the same time but I guess 6 months will pass, eventually.... in.... ummm... 6 months ~__~ (brain!) Why would they ditch individual player housing, though? They developed it already, just fine tuning it o_o The FC houses will serve for testing how the housing system in general works.

It was in the most recent live letter. The issue is which one they want to implement first. Patch 2.2 is going to bring either Player Rooming or Player Housing. Given that 2.2 is likely 6 months away, if SE selects for Player Rooming that implies that the actual Player Housing system would be in Patch 2.3 at the earliest... which is likely 9 months to a year away.

I'm not sure where you're getting that it sounds like it's "OR", when the quote says "However, we are planning for both."

Edit: I guess I can see what you mean, but they mean 'or' for 2.2. Meaning they'll either do rooms in FC houses, or they will do player houses for 2.2. The one that doesn't get added in 2.2 will likely come at a later date.

He said both in there. Anyway I don't know why people are getting their panties in a bunch over this... Housing is largely an RP feature without a huge amount of praticality. It's fun, for sure but the amount anger and disappointment I'm seeing over individual player housing being delayed is redonkulous.

Player houseing will come as soon as they are sure it won't tear up the servers, The fc houseing will test this, they will fine tune it and eventually do individual housing.

The fact that FC comes before personal housing is hilarious.
I just want to snazz up my house...Thinking Personal housing was coming in 2.1 had my hopes up quite a bit.

not hilarious, it makes sense. FC housing will help test to see what needs to be tweaked and/or added to make player housing work. It is a much better alternative, then to have then release both FC and player housing right now, and have everything go to hell.

We are not here to test the game for them. We are paying customers...they should have either a test server like FFXI did or have their own testers.
