Why do people want crafting to be more tedious than it already is? To fake rarity into the market with even more chance that already enters in at the gathering level?
The casino element is quite present in the over melding and gathering area. If you make it "harder" to make HQ using proper method then you might as well just remove skills all together and we can all just sit around blindly clicking the mouse with our face in the keyboard blowing through stacks of mats until the HQ finally pops.
The time and the time to get crystals can be lame if farm the stuff instead of buying it from the marketboard. To make the HQ's 99's on most stacks take hr's or more. If make a stack of 99 HQ's try sell them at 125k, You will notice they do not sell fast. Might take a week to sell or not sell unless in stacks of 1 or 5s's. Just because you can HQ it is nothing if the priced is overpriced. At Lv50 and hq all the gears you got on. Then try and get the right meld items to show up on the soul bound, and you see the slow and then the why hell give me the cheap item fire IV everytime or the control +4.
IF can put. Just try get to meld 5's slots on all your gear and you will be happy the hq's are easy. Unless you got 125 million to buy the gear or lucky.

Basically, instead of break = fail, it's "not HQ" = fail. Nobody wants the NQs anyway, so its just like failing.
It's hard as it is to guarantee HQ on items you're not leveled/geared enough for. This means you spend lots of gil just to gear up, or if you end up maxing several crafts just to make it yourself, spending lots of gil to get there quickly. And the longer you wait to get into the market with all the ridiculous undercutting, the less your chances of making money, and the less money you have the less likely you'll get to that point of "easily" churning out HQ product.
The problem isn't HQ vs NQ, it's the undercutting that causes crafted items to sell for way less than it costs to make them and that all crafts are—without any changes to the way crafting or the market boards work—doomed to become a vanity project in this trend.
The ilvl50+ items need to be HQ to even compete with all the AF/DL/drop equipment and that's WITH materia melded. If made artificially rare, prices skyrocket with nobody earning gil to buy them and people give up on them and use nothing but what they grab on dungeon runs or can buy with tomestones.
What's sad about this is some of the items NQ/HQ price is ridiculous... NQ item 4000 gil, HQ item 4000 gil or 4100 gil.
Some people don't consider to add the amount of time and effort it took to be able to be able to HQ items.
I can NQ by spamming regular crafting, HQ takes more turns and using skills.
I wish they remove the market history, you'll be able to see current market prices for the items that are up but not show the history so you don't have anything to base on if you don't see any up right now, you decide on the price and let the buyers decide if your price is fair or not.
The issue is anyone can hq, and this creates a market that players dont profit. The wards/market is flooded with materials and gear thats hqed so this reduces the price so everyone can buy it but... it also makes it hard to make in game money. Currently there is no balance in the amount of materials that can be farm nor the amount of hq items that can be crafted, so everything is dirt cheap and no one can make very much gil. So now we are back at square one again everyone ends up being poor because everyone and their momma's can hq and or gather everything. In the end something needs to be done or the market will crash to the point that the only way to make money would be to run a damn dungeon. Currently it isnt even worth crafting items or materials to sell on the ward/market because the time/cost or what have you is more valuable than the amount of gil you will actually sell it for (if you dont end up being undercut to the point you end up taking a loss).
I am now a lvl 50 WVR. Yeah me! For low level stuff, yeah it's easy. I'm a lvl 50 WVR, it should be easy. I have developed the skill necessary to produce a HQ Felt Robe at will. It's called being an artisan. The problem is not that it is too easy, the problem is that EVERYONE has the opportunity to become an artisan in EVERY class. Guess what, in a few months (if I'm still playing this game) I'll be a lvl 50 GSM too. If the crafting classes had to rely upon each other, the way we rely upon each other to complete a dungeon, then rarity would return.
