That's sad. I never played WoW but i was in a game similar to it for 6 years. I ran a guild specifically for teaching new players all the way to end game, then i'd contact the "large, named raiding" guilds on the server to invite the player. My guild became well known on the server as a mentoring guild, and the large guild leaders would often ask for my players. I took in players similar to the "outcast" player, and often times they were good people who just never had anyone take the time to explain game mechanics or show them how to properly run a dungeon. Everyone was too elitist and showing a new player how to play was "wasting time".
More often then not, the players i taught ended up on leader boards for endgame and pvp. They just needed someone to take the time to show them proper gear, fighting techniques, etc. I really hate to see good people get shunned because no one bothered to tell them anything but "you suck gtfo!!"

I pride myself on working to build a community on my server that I can be happy to be a part of. I run an FC and 2 Linkshells. Our policy is nice people first. Attitudes are almost impossible to change, but gear can be gained, and skill can be taught! It's up to us to stand up and see that the toxic players are the ones who are outcasts and not join in with them and let them become the majority!

sorry I played EQ1 for 6 years, a game that forced you to make friends and interact with each other.

You all can thank instance finders, duty finders and instanced content for the trash it spawned. Playing games where community and reputation mattered was the golden age of mmo gaming. This current iteration of the genre has spawned fed and trained the current crop of "give me everything, give it to me now, and get out of my fucking way to get it" players.

That said, we can change that and bring it back ... but it will take work and effort, and maybe even a forum ban here and there if you choose to do so here. In EQ, most servers had forums run offsite from the developer's sites and there you could actually name names, and the assholes had nowhere to hide. Here, like in the real world, the victims have less rights than the fiends.

In the end, it's up to you.


PS Change that initial "You" to "We". We all share the blame, whether we asked for the changes or did nothing to stop them.

It's not only previous Final Fantasy games. I have played WOW for years and have seen the decline of attitude in there. When I originally played there where class mentors who would hold group mentoring sessions where they advised on gear progression, stats, rotations. Eventually I took over one of these and did the same.

Not resubbing in this game, but I will pop back in a few months. Hopefully by then the content locusts will have moved on to the next game, where no doubt they will infest that one with their life misery, leaving the more socially skilled people here.

I Remember the same god damned players doing the same damned stuff back then, but then I don't have the nostalgia filter on. The only thing different was some people just never got content because its hard to make friends.

WoW never grabbed me. I gave it 6 months, and I tried to like it I really did when it was first out but I didn't like how it looked. The whole orcs, undead, ect stuff, just how it felt "old timey" with the design of the world put me off, but i will say it was always packed and crowded with extremely helpful and nice people. I will agree, now my gf just cancelled her sub after 6 years because how Mists of Pandaria was horrible and that the community took a turn for the worse.

I'm sorry to hear that. I have to say though, out of all the MMORPG games I've played, this has the worst community I have ever experienced. I don't know how WoW is now but this one is not so great.
