Wasn't like that on my server and I was on the inside looking out so I got to see all the "lovely" inner workings. My server was terrible though and most of the people that thought they were amazing were "nothing" in comparison to other servers. In fact, my server and the top LS's seemed more worried about keeping others down than progressing themselves. Then again I think it was because my server was heavily JP and for whatever reason the JP players really tried to, for lack of a better term, oppress the new NA/EN players when they got going so once those players rose to power they just continued the tradition of keeping other, newer players down. That's just my opinion based upon my own perception though.

Sorta off topic but hilarious example of how crappy my server was - Biggest and best NA HNMLS on my server logged a character in that hadn't played in months to give him something "he always wanted" rather than allow numerous other members that could've used it to have it because they were "too new", didn't "deserve" it and were not "original old school members". Granted that's just one example but that's primarily how most of the top LS's operated (in HNM's, Sky, Dynamis, Sea, etc.) which surely has something to do with how they were "raised". People saw stuff like that happen and happen to them so they'd leave a LS to start their own only to end up doing the same thing to others because they got screwed over once before and had already been waiting forever and a day to get what they wanted due to being repeatedly screwed over. Because of the nature of HNM's, their claiming and their drops people would rather screw over the newer players than wait any longer to get their "shiny".

Clearly, you don't understand the concept of having friends, and bringing people into your own linkshell. Everyone I ran into or brought into our linkshell was far from a elitist. Much like the one I made this time again. Not a single person in my LS is an elitist. Unlike most of you, its not about "omfg get to end game, do coil. You dies?? Omfg nubz gtfo bai" for us. If I'm paying $15 a month for a VIDEO GAME I'm going to make it fun for myself. It's not my fault or anyone elses you were in a "top tier" LS with elitists. That choice was yours. I choose my players whom I want to quest with, I make my own memories, I create my own fun. "Clearly" you don't know how to correctly socialize in a video game. All this generation of gamers is good for is "who can reach the end the fastest" and "my dick is bigger than your dick" attitudes.

It sucks to be in the position that this player was in. Not doing well and not quite understanding why. I try my best to help people who are doing pretty poorly and don't get why. It's pretty cool to help someone out or even be helped out when things get rough. I've been helped numerous times... however... The issues begin when someone -resists- listening to advice and help. There was a situation where my wife was playing WP with a BLM and they were dying against the flans. After the second wipe, I noticed the BLM's rotations were a bit off for that situation and I was taught a Flare rotation that would clear the adds easily enough.

I asked for her keyboard after she agreed that I can give the advice and all I said was "You can kill the flans easier by getting 3 stacks of AF before they spawn, wait for the tank to rodeo them in the center and use Raging strikes ---> Flare ---> Convert ---> swift cast ---> Flare. Advice that was responded with "I've been in this dungeon 50 times already, what could you possibly teach me?" Which was followed by a cast of flare followed by a rage quit. We know this person, our FC has been trying to help him/her understand certain mechanics of the game (They thought that Esuna was only good for curing poison until we corrected) but it is usually met with initial resistance or hostility.

It is very difficult to stay patient when faced with this level of resistance.

That's sad. I never played WoW but i was in a game similar to it for 6 years. I ran a guild specifically for teaching new players all the way to end game, then i'd contact the "large, named raiding" guilds on the server to invite the player. My guild became well known on the server as a mentoring guild, and the large guild leaders would often ask for my players. I took in players similar to the "outcast" player, and often times they were good people who just never had anyone take the time to explain game mechanics or show them how to properly run a dungeon. Everyone was too elitist and showing a new player how to play was "wasting time".
More often then not, the players i taught ended up on leader boards for endgame and pvp. They just needed someone to take the time to show them proper gear, fighting techniques, etc. I really hate to see good people get shunned because no one bothered to tell them anything but "you suck gtfo!!"

I pride myself on working to build a community on my server that I can be happy to be a part of. I run an FC and 2 Linkshells. Our policy is nice people first. Attitudes are almost impossible to change, but gear can be gained, and skill can be taught! It's up to us to stand up and see that the toxic players are the ones who are outcasts and not join in with them and let them become the majority!

We do everything from lowbie dungeons to Titan farms and Binding Coil! Our policy is Good Attitudes Only!
Life is a giant cookie, share it!

Its actualy pretty easy .. people are assholes by default (including myself), and you cant expect that their nature change to better one when they login into the online game. In real life our action its limited. We need to deal with consequences of our actions (basicaly you really dont wanna piss someone who is 2times bigger then you).In online games there isnt any really hard consequences, to be hones there isnt single one (just imagine how would you play if your account would be closed for week when you died ^^).
So only real advice i can give you is... try to find suitable Free Company or linkshell... and ofc grow up thats how world works stop QQ about community , community was bitch anyway a long time ago

ff14 coomunity is probably even worse.Nowdays all you see in shouts is "LF relic+1 DPS WP/AK SR"I mean common relic+1 for a WP speed run?! to save what 2 minutes of the timer??Countless have been the times i've joined such "elite" partys to find out they didnt had a clue on how to even do a SR so we ended up taking more than 20min to finish it......The amount of elitism in this game is breath taking.
My last titan hm run was a nice example of a player who needed help.He was a tank and wasnt even that bad geared with garuda weapon and some af2 items but he couldnt manage to hold aggro from them WHMs so after our 3rd wipe ppl started to moan and wanted to replace him.So i gave him a few advices on how to do a proper rotation and voila he was alrdy tanking like he should be.He then thanked me and said he was also very nervous since we were all geared in full dl with our relics, relics+1 and i just told him to relax and enjoy the game.

I miss the old days where ppl played to have fun and interact/socialize with eacother..waiting in 2h queues for Alterac Valey chatting with your group and getting to know eacother and guess what no one really cared how long the queues were.Helping low level players completing a quest or to complete their epic mount/weapon quest..etc etc..Where server reputation meant something, nowdays ppl jump from guild to guild like there is no tomorrow and no one really knows eacother...man i miss the old days.

    Ditto.
I remember games where you couldnt even check people, let alone set gear requirement.
But you knew everyone that was fun to play with and didnt need to check their gear, the battlefield told us who was good and who wasnt.

Now someone will jump in to say that FFXIV community isnt that bad etc etc etc... probably you didnt play long enough to see the changes.

The people shouting you only need a relic for a speed run are not the real elitists. You can't just shout for people with relics in this game because relic does not = geared. Anyone in FFXI with a relic more than likely was very geared. Not the case in this game. Anyone has and can get a relic these days. Whenever I shout for my speed runs, I say you need EXPERIENCE and be OP/geared! Don't even bother /tell'ing me if you are not geared/experienced/overpowered. I don't even mention relic in my shout because there are so many idiots with relics out there that don't know thier job/rotation. They should have a relic though, but that goes without saying. It doesn't even need to be said in my shout. As far as a tank in Titan goes, I tanked it fine as PLD in all armor greens, gc 50 weapon, with DPS blue accessories. However, I had really good healers backing me up, and I was very strict in my shout just like for my speed runs. If you are the leader of your group, and you have the aura of someone who knows what they're doing with people supporting you, no one will question your gear or authority. Titan is not just a gear check (moreso for healers/DPS), it's a "Are you smart enough to avoid plumes and death" check.
