I don't mind helping people that listen. But more often than not, any attempt to help someone is met with "I'll play my way you elitist jerk, stop telling me how to play the game." It get's old. You cause drama trying to help someone and cause drama not helping someone. It's so much easier to just avoid people that don't know what their doing. Much the same way you would avoid a mechanic who thought the alternator was a water pump.

There is so much wrong with these three sentences that I don't even know where to begin.

Blame always falls on the bullier. It is not the victim's responsibility to change their lives; it's the responsibility of the bully to change their behavior or suffer consequences. Why should someone being bullied in an MMO - and yes, "trash talk" counts as bullying when it's not done as good-natured ragging between friends - have to negatively alter their play times just to get some relief? If they want to play the game, then they should be able to play the game without fear of bullies. Victim blaming is wrong on every level.

There is a difference between now and back in the day. The difference is impunity. Bullies back in the day would get by with bullying 9/10 out of times, but that tenth time someone decided to put up and the bully got his ass handed to him or at least took a couple of good licks. Either way, eventually the bill came due, and hopefully the bully was a little wiser for the wear. Most of the bullies I scrapped it out with when I was a kid ended up becoming friends.

The difference here is people in a game talk trash with no chance of repercussion, that bill will never come due. Maybe some of these people in game have a complex and need validation from a video game. They can play a game and treat people however they want because they will never have to answer for it. To be honest Zappo, I miss the old bullying. If it cam to blows; so be it.

I always knew the Koreans were intense when it came to Blizzard games so I'm not surprised by this. Their whole loot system is a catch-22. You're not top DPS, no gear. I played WoW for 6 years. My guild was a B/B+ raiding guild. We were never first to clear out a raid on server, but we enjoyed each other's company more than downing a boss. We would take the time to train people, even took people we "knew" who would just stand in the fire. It was an incentive for the top DPS to outperform because we knew 1-2 we're going to die on the first phase. We valued friendship and fun over e-penises. While other top-tier guilds would implode or jump server because "there wasn't enough talent", we'd just truck along doing our thing having fun. Did it for 4 years, then Cataclysm came and ruined it for all of us.

Also, this is indeed a game; now ask the guy who is being bullied whilst trying hard how much he's enjoying himself. Google a little; games have much larger real life social impact that you seem to be aware of. Your comfortable definitions work for you though, so, yay.
To be fair that was an analogy not a hypothetical, and although I largely agree with your point his comment about the logical falicy of comparing work to running ak/wp does leave something to be desired.

I'm not here to solve the world problems, and I'm do treat others with the same respect as I would if I were face to face. I don't think it's fair to ask any more.

well, at least we can tell the difference between a noob who's willing to learn and a jerk who doesn't give a damn about our opinion.

No no, just no. Your not going to divert the blame. Its bullying plain and simple. No one here needs to "grow a thicker skin". Your attitude is the problem. Let me ask you a question... how are your "views" contributing to the community as a whole? After all is it not a social game? If it wasnt it would just be a single player game. How is this kind of attitude keeping people playing a game? You tell people to "deal with it" without even stepping back and looking at the consequences yes? You realize what that makes you look like right?

You actively contribute to killing a game when you are hostile to people. The more people that do it, the less newer players are going to want to join, and thus... your game dies sooner than later.

This post is a perfect example and evidence of the fact that YOU are what's wrong with online gaming. You need to learn to not be an asshole. People who can't function without trash talking and bullying need to get counseling to deal with their sociopathic behavior.

What's truly obscene: a piece of human debris without even the most basic of social skills blaming the victims of his/her inappropriate behavior.

The first and big point I want to make is that there is no reason to feel sorry for this outcast guy. However, I would give him a second chance due to his apology he wrote. He clearly said that people already linked him to how-to guides and forums to become a good Warrior before all of this happened. So, he clearly has a learning disability. I am surprised a story like this didn't blow up sooner because there are already a ton of mentally challenged people that have been playing MMOs, or have there not been?

I started playing MMOs when I was probably around 13 or 14 in FFXI, around when it first came out in the U.S. I was in Valkurm Dunes tanking for the first time. I did not even know what provoke did and the party members were getting whacked and eventually left me alone in the party. STILL, they kept saying USE A MACRO USE A MACRO... I didn't even know what a macro was. But from there I took one step at a time forward and eventually found out from a random person what the best macro to tank would be which was /ja "Provoke" <t>. It only took a day to learn that, and any normal person would have learned it just like I did. That is why I do not feel sorry for this guy. He was already helped by people and still doesn't get it. Nothing will stop people from blacklisting someone like that. Anyone in real life like that too would be blacklisted.

Maybe the context of the story was taken in the wrong way when they say starting "Mentor raids". It could just be a joke and people are shouting that to kind of make fun of this viral story. Korea is a small country, and a lot of stories become well known very fast, so it would be natural to see jokes about it in /shout. If the raids are as hard as they say they are and reset every 3-4 days, then I would say it is necessary to have these mentor raids. That actually is a nice thing to have come to think about it. Mentor Raid Titan LFM!!... Yeah, I got nothing better to do till coil resets LOL.
