Devs, can we have a "Mentor" function?

When I played FFXI most people with the mentor symbol just had it for the novelty, to make themselves feel special. Most of them were particularly unhelpful.

In FFXIV, I've mostly have just seen people ask questions in /say and usually get a good answer. Personally I don't bother with people, but new players (or returning 1.0) that have sent me a /tell asking something I've always helped answer best I could.

Excellence, a Famfrit FC, maintains a linkshell specifically to address this issue. It is called "How Do I...?" Sadly, we haven't had very many questions, and, although the LS is still open, conversation has gone dormant. ((note to self: We should probably advertise a bit more .))

One thing that would make it easier would be if people could just join without having to be invited. In other games I've played, one could simply /join any public chat channel and get going. The whole process of having to be invited adds an unnecessary (in my opinion) barrier.
