Devs, can we have a "Mentor" function?

In FFXI we had that very helpful "mentor" option where experienced people could flag as mentors, got a little M next to their name and unexperienced new players knew if they have any questions, those people are for them.

In general i would like to see everyone is helping out, of course. But some people are too shy to ask right away or would feel like "noobs" or get even called "noob" when they ask questions.

But many of us are willing to give a hand and help out, please give us the mentor function so questions can be asked to people that actually want to answer them

We have those, they're called Linkshells and Free Companies.

Granted, it'd be nice to have a bulletin board style sort of advertising board where you could list up your FC or LS and people could look through it and apply if your group fits what they want, but we do what we can ^^

Please for the love of god no. The general attitude of new players are even worse than experienced players. At LEAST just as bad if not worse. You can't give anyone any advice without being told to go F yourselves.

I like to think that if someone is actively coming to you for answers, they're not going to tell you to "F" yourself when you oblige.. ^^

this is something i'd love to see in game and something i'd enjoy being involved in. i'm not the "top 1%" of my job, but always near to top of groups on parses and would be glad to help anyone that wants to improve. i also know many people that i was trying to help that i wound up learning a simple trick here and there from them that i had completely overlooked. in other words no matter how good you are there's always room to improve.

Well, you don't need to be a great player to be helpful. Some very new players without FC's or LS's would appreciate that alot. In XI when i had questions about my job or about the game in general i just used the mentor search and I always got help ^_^ that actually felt nice to have other players around that are willing to help, so i never felt shy to just ask.

When I played FFXI most people with the mentor symbol just had it for the novelty, to make themselves feel special. Most of them were particularly unhelpful.

In FFXIV, I've mostly have just seen people ask questions in /say and usually get a good answer. Personally I don't bother with people, but new players (or returning 1.0) that have sent me a /tell asking something I've always helped answer best I could.

Instead of "Mentor" function, why not just improve the Help system that we currently have? I believe that would suffice for the beginners as what you're pertaining to.

One way or another, this "Mentor" function would just lead to playes treating this "Mentors" as gods / elites or w/e you want to name it, when in reality, they're just equal with other players who knows as much as this "Mentor" knows yet don't want any publicity.

If people are telling you to do that then I expect it has to something to do with YOU as a person and how you answered which might have something to do with it.

Excellence, a Famfrit FC, maintains a linkshell specifically to address this issue. It is called "How Do I...?" Sadly, we haven't had very many questions, and, although the LS is still open, conversation has gone dormant. ((note to self: We should probably advertise a bit more .))

One thing that would make it easier would be if people could just join without having to be invited. In other games I've played, one could simply /join any public chat channel and get going. The whole process of having to be invited adds an unnecessary (in my opinion) barrier.
