    Armourcraft: waste of time.

Title says it all really, 9 coke to make pretty much any Armourer 2 star item? That works out at 1125 tomes of philosophy for every single piece of gear you want to craft. Gear I should point out that's roughly equivalent to Darklight stuff IF you cram it full of materia.

Gods forbid you FAIL one of these crafts.

Why even bother leveling armoursmith at all? I'm not sure what the other DoH classes have to go through but I imagine it's much the same if that item list is anything to go by. I guess weavers/leathermorkers can make a whole bunch of crafting/gathering gear, but Armourers can only really make gear for gladiators, marauders and lancers (and their respective job classes) and they all get their AF gear at 45-50 anyways, so why do they need your services?

you will need lot of cross skill for a guarante HQ at 2 star item
and i do agree, leveling armorer alone is super useless :/ i hope they remove AF or nerf AF so armorer can be actually useful post 45

These problems are far from unique to Armorer. Nobody NEEDS any crafted gear 1-49 because people get free gear from quests and GC seals. If they really want a piece of armor or a wep they can buy one from convenient merchants in every town, who sell the gear for less than it costs crafters to make it I'd like to add.

Then comes level 50 where once again they have no use for crafted stuff. All they have to do is run easy dungeons and over a couple weeks buy full darklight. They don't even need intermediate gear to help them farm tomes because 45-50 they are handed a set of easy AF. Just about the only thing they DO need from crafters is a cheap weapon melded with 2 rank III materia for their relic quest.

Once they are sitting pretty in their darklight/allagan gear they can continue to avoid any DoH interaction because their gear can't even be melded. Ok, so no gear/weapons you say, but how about consumables? The cooking food is very expensive and is horribly balanced. Most high end food stat caps aren't even reachable (+2% STR, up to some unattainable max type stuff).

The stat boosting potions from alchemy last 15s and have a 5 minute cooldown. But even worse is they share a cooldown with HP/MP potions in a terrible way. You have a mega-potion with a 1.5 min CD, and after using a stat pot you can't use the mega-potion for the next 5 minutes as well. HP and MP pots are always useful but it's crazy expensive to make x-potions/x-ethers. High elixirs cost the same as most ilvl 70 gear so alchemists can't make them.

As if this wasn't bad enough, they pour salt in the wound by having all of those TWO-STAR potions drop from dungeon chests.

The final slap in the face to crafters is the very limiting stat caps. You don't even have the option to load up your multi million gil tanking chest with VIT because it has VIT to begin with. Every stat you want to increase is already on the gear itself and can't be raised more than 2-4 points.

Welcome to crafting in ARR. I hope you enjoy your stay.

I feel your pain... I think I'm still going to level it because I'm stubborn and a bit of a masochist. now for the rest of my time in game I can hope, "maybe this patch they'll make my high end crafting viable or at least less like sticking needles under my fingernails." and then my hopes will be dashed and my hammer and pliers will gather more dust.

maybe they'll add a minion where the unlock is having a maxed out DoH and not using it for 12 months. 'Lefty has summoned Dust Bunny!'

Personally, I'm not leveling for the purpose of now. There are a lot of crafting classes in this game. Add to that the three gathering classes that support them. There is no way that they'll not be more and more useful as time goes on.

Besides, I find it fun and interesting to do (more fun that combat to me honestly). ^.^

For what? What are they buying with this gil? I swear some people just like to make money without a reason.

I got me a 50 crafter just to say I did it. I'm not sure what to even craft. HQing 1 and 2 star recipes seems like I'm going to have to rely on luck or boringly grind more crafts, not to mention there seems like very little market for GSM ilvl 70s. There's literally like 5-10 sold on my server. I can make 49 jewelry for a profit, but it's hardly fast money due to so much competition and the gil doesn't really come pouring back in large amounts.

And the question still remains. What the hell do I need gil for? If I make a few thousand a day, I'm set for repair costs.

Armorer's 1 star stuff is pretty juicy. Being able to make not one, but two pieces for DoW is a nice concession to us. We also make some pieces for MIN and BSM. The very highest of the high end-game crafting is always a giant time and gold sink and has a limited market - you should be happy that you can craft the equivalent of BC gear at all. Most MMO's don't have any avenues to do that.

If you just want to make a lot of gold, then buy some cheap stacks of cobalt and farm a bunch of ice shards. Make HQ ingots and sell them to other people who are leveling Armorer. Then, blow up your gear once it spiritbinds and sell the materia. If you're looking to make a bunch of money off of 2-star stuff - guess what, there are a ton of other people who did the work to get all crafts to 50 and can make HQ 2-star from normal mats with no problem, and the pool of people who want and can afford the stuff is pretty limited.

Has there been any response at all from Square on this issue or are we just getting a deaf ear hoping we will all eventually just give up and move to another game?

Even if ARM isn't worth leveling, sometimes you got to look for the long term benefits that aren't even there....this is still a "new-ish" game.

Me? I'm shooting for the HQ Darksteel and all the IV materia to put into it.

I can't stand grinding out AK and CM 100 times dealing with elitest jerks who want to speed run, or noobs that don't know what to do in the DF, or plain old morons that don't know their ass from the their head when trying to act like elitests....

might as well be more productive and "try" to make better gear for myself, and have less dealings with elitests, noobs, and morons through the DF.

Erm, Armorsmith is one of, if not the, best crafting class for lvl 50 2-stars.

Heavy Darksteel Body/Helm and Leg/Feet take 9 Coke each, so they are actually CHEAPER in tomestones than their DL equivalent.

To put this into perspective, each of GSM/Leatherworkers DL equivalent rings cost 18 Peacock Ore EACH. So the amount of Tomestones to craft heavy armor for 4 body slots is identical to what it costs to make one ring/necklace/bracelet/cloth pants/etc.
