History Repeating is smply not doable as a BLM.

I have had no issues doing any of the other quests, but this one is simply not possible to complete as a BLM. The "song" bubbles do far too much damage and there is no real way to avoid them nor is there any indication when or where they are going to burst.

One person suggested that I level a secondary class, but why should I have to just to get through ONE quest? No. The damage dealt by the bubbles needs to be reduced by at least 50%, or at least there needs to be an indication when they're going to burst and do damage. The rest of the Duty is fine, as the trash and even the boss creature are flimsy, the boss dying to a full rotation and the adds will die to either a couple basic Blizzards or Fires. But the bubbles defeat me evey time I try - even the Echo buff offers no help.

EDIT: With a bit of luck and a large Echo buff, I was able to finish, but the point remains. It's far too difficult to do regularly.

I get that you're frustrated with this quest, but to say that it isn't possible is not true. I've done it as a Black Mage, but I'm not sure what level I was.

If you haven't already, one thing that can really help for soloing is Physick (heal) from the Arcanist class. You only need to get to level 4, so it's not very time-consuming.

The bubbles are an AoE, and they burst when they're close to you (or after a certain amount of time). Some drift lazily toward you and others whip around and then shoot toward you. They pause right before bursting. Zoom out as much as possible and dodge them as best you can. If you get caught by one, you may be able to use Manaward/Manawall, although I didn't try this.

The adds can be easily taken care of with AoE Sleep. More importantly, you can even sleep the boss. If you want to "cheap" it out, then just put him to sleep and heal yourself.

I just found this video, and it's pretty much what I did: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=baA8pm9kq24

I starting writing this before your edit. Congrats on beating it. Personally, I liked the difficulty.

Myself and other BLM's would disagree. Also if that gave you trouble you are in for some real joy later on.

Had no issues with this quest on SMN which is about as flimsy as BLM, mind you I was using Titan-egi to reduce the amount of damage I took

This quest was pretty dicey for me as MNK, too. The duty ended in success the very moment a bubble exploded and dealt me a killing blow.

It's tough to complete as a BLM, but the quest itself isn't supposed to be a walk in the park, everything that leads up to it indicates that it's going to be a hard fight. I had to retry it about four times, the first two times were learning the attack patterns of the boss and adds, the third was seeing what could be changed in my strategy to cope better, fourth time was basically the new strategy stepped up in terms of time between actions.

I honestly don't see SE designing quests that just cannot be done by a class, unless they set a class restriction on it like our class/job quests every 5 levels. Hang in there and just try new things, you'll be surprised at just how versatile characters are when you're working with them.

I had a hard time with this as a lancer but thats only because I was been a spaz.

Stay up at the back of the arena, by the blue line and wait for enemies to come to you. You don't get near as many bubbles coming your way as a lot of them circle near the shore. All the enemies, even the boss, have low hp so they can all be taken out fairly quickly. Just do your fastest dps rotation on them and it wont be too much of a problem.

As a BLM, I found this really simple due to AoE sleep. Have you tried crowd control and taking on enemies one at a time? Between that and adjusting your camera view so the song bubbles don't get too close, it's really not a bad fight at all! Most of the mobs are so weak one Fire will down them (with Astral Fire 3 up) and even Scathe works pretty well if you need to be mobile.
