Shocking! Angry Wood Wailer kills squirrels!

To protect the wood, that's what they're there for. Wood Wailers are considered the guards and protectors of the Twelveswood. Yet one takes it upon herself to violently maim any cute little squirrels that approach. Cute, innocent squrrels.

Rise up fellow Eorzeans, rise up I say! Let us band together and stop this ill-tempered wailer from killing any more innocent creatures! Just because she's bored doesn't mean she has the right to kill our passive furry friends! Save the woods, save the squirrels!

Seriously though, devs you might want to have a look at this particular NPC. Whenever that one little squirrel spawns on the path this NPC goes nuts and chases after it to kill it, and then any that come to its aid. My battle log is being spammed by her whenever I come to the Treespeak Stables.

I saw that a few times, make me go like " Whoa! Well that's kinda mean...".

The Wood wailers at the entrances also go and chase any critters walking by their line of sight... How come went I run into camp the guards are not as zealous on their duty?

Yeah, I've noticed this particular guard perpetrating unprovoked attacks on innocent squirrels many a time.

There's another one near the Diremites in North Shroud. You ain't getting any drops if he hits first.

I actually wish more NPCs did this. Would feel like they're actually engaged with the world and not just decorations.

I mean, may as well train if you're stuck on guard duty anyway, right? Gain a few levels and get that promotion so you can be reassigned to somewhere more... desolate.

I kind of understand the Diremites, those are aggressive by nature if I recall. However it always baffled me as to why they go after a passive creature.

    *a squirrel/ladybug/non-aggressive creature appears*
Wailer: OMG IT'S A SAVAGE BEAST! KILL IT!
*Wailer savagely beats it, and any of its friends that come to help*

Strangely enough you can purposely aggro any other creature in the area and drag it to that one I showed above and she won't attack it. But anything that spawns nearby she goes after like it's a threat to the entire populace.

    EDIT:

I remember in some other kinds of MMO games I've played that had stationed guards if you were attacked by/did attack a creature and ran to where it was situated the guard would actively attack the target and kill it. Meanwhile if some creature spawned and wasn't aggressive the guard would patrol right on past it or ignore its presence. But once it turned hostile, they would assault it. Wish that'd be how it worked here. If you're fleeing to a town/city for shelter the guards should attack it but if something just scurries by unprovoked and passive, they ignore it.

World of Warcraft has this. Guards usually will attack nearby hostile enemies, although they'll ignore the little critters. The critters aren't safe from natural predators, however, so it's common to see something like a wolf kill a rabbit.

Considering every Guild in Gridania tasks you with 'cutting your teeth' on squirrels/ladybugs as a way to get a feel for your weapon, it may just be the way things are there.
