The main difference between legacy and non legacy is the time they were able to first go into coil. For legacy this was week 34 and for non-legacy this was week 36, giving legacy 2 extra weeks of lockouts to practice fights and such. The 2 weeks of gear drops and myth helps a bit too(for example the MT of BG had 11 pieces of 90 gear, the MT of FFXIV has 8 pieces of 90 gear and 1 piece of 60 gear)

Keep ind mind Turn 5 was locked for almost 2 full weeks due to the exploit and bugs so all the time people spent practicing before that lockdown is very significant.

We cleared Turn 1 our first night in Coil, August 27. Non-legacy guilds recorded first kills the following week, as early as September 02-03. We cleared Turn 2 on September 01 (after losing a day of progression bugged out and stuck dead inside with no way out), and I believe Non-legacy cleared it as early as September 04-05. That's only one week difference, one reset, and amounts to exactly four pieces of i90 gear. As far as current equipment goes: our party's average ilevel was 82.5 for our Twintania kill- theirs was 82.25 (according to xivarmory, which hasn't updated for any drops as of Monday's reset).

If your argument is time = gear = advantage, then you don't seem to realize that a 2 week lockout gave other guilds 2 weeks to close the gear gap and catch up in theorycraft. Not every drop is useful to a raid. Pretty sure we've had 8 BLM rings drop. Pretty sure we've had 5 DRG belts drop. That's almost all loot which effectively doesn't help us at all, and that's not even factoring in the things that aren't repeat drops but still aren't useful to us because we don't use those jobs for anything in Coil. This is effectively the same issue Non-legacy suffers in terms of not being able to use all the loot they get due to available jobs.

In short, due to the random nature of chest loot- not everything a raid gets is useful to them, and after 2 months of running coil the gap has been all but erased between Legacy and non. It all averages out, and you can plainly see it in the numbers if you but care to look.

This is nothing against Final Fantasy and crew. We were watching their live stream, cheering them on and bringing our friends in to watch and support them in their race for the kill. We're stoked for them and think it's still a great accomplishment in spite of the unfortunate timing.

But! If we're going to split hairs, at least do so objectively. I think it's time to put the Legacy/Non thing to bed. The advantage is all but gone.

We'll see the legacy versus non-legacy thing be non-existant next tier imo. It was more than just loot lockouts. It was also the ability to obtain crafted gear either from a there aren't the crafters to do this or a gil issue from where I'm assuming BG and other legacy guilds were sitting on enough gil to buy things like vanya's and the likewise for their members.

At the same time though, legacy vs. non-legacy is a moot point when it was definitely possible for NL to catch up with how long it took for a Turn 5 clear mixed with the 2 weeks or raid lockouts lost.

I generally agree, yeah. I'm looking forward to future competition.
