i mostly withdraw because im interested in finding a dungeon already started/half or almost complete. so if there could be a check box to que up for when someone leaves it would save people from doing this.

2 ways to fix it. Either hide the text that shows how many bosses are killed, or if you click join an in progress run give the person a in progress run.
I'd prefer a in-progress only option. I do what the OP mentioned as a tank but I don't spam it like that.
Add an in-progress-only option, problem solved.
So the box would look like [X] New Groups (checked by default) [X] In Progress (unchecked by default)
This explains me 100%.
Every time I am online I do this for AK, WP, Prae, and Brayflox as a 50WHM. I don't join Prae, WP, or AK unless they are at the last boss. I don't join Bray unless they are beyond the first boss. Why do I do this? Due to class and work I can only play starting late friday through mid sunday (some weekends, like this coming one, I can't play even that much due to presentations and meetings). I want to finish what I can as quickly as I can so I can catch up to all those players who play everyday all day. Unless they implement severe punishment for it I don't see myself stopping this for any reason anytime soon.
You honestly shouldn't be complaining about me backing out of a Duty Finder party before it starts.
Let's say I, as the healer, back out after we are all matched. If this happens, then the next immediate healer that registered after me will take this spot. If the other healer that took this spot decides to enter, great! If they, too, back out, then it will be passed to the next immediate healer. This continues until some healer joins and all is good.
But what if there were no other healers searching but me? If that happens, then the remaining three players who were searching are put at the top of the queue and enter as soon as a healer with more free-time appears. This situation is exactly the same as if I was never searching to begin with. I assume I do not have to explain the bold to you.
In my opinion the developers should not be upset about this, but instead add a drop down menu to the Duty Finder next to "Join in Progress" that allows players to only match with parties that have cleared [0/4+], [1/4+] [2/4+] [3/4+] of the dungeon. This way we don't get matched with new parties and you don't complain about us and instead complain about the already existent wait times for the Duty Finder that you suffer anyway.
Even better: I want the developer's to also add a function that tells those you join in progress the current number of player roles left in the dungeon at the time of matching. I'm tired of joining AK/Brayflox at the end without a tank. It should mention "Progress [1/4] Tank[1/1] DPS[2/2] Healer[0/1] when I try to join in progress.
In fact, I like this idea so much I will post it as a whole new unrelated thread so it can get some attention.
I agree that someone who continually withdraws without giving a DF party a chance shouldn't. However , I'm a lv 50 Relic +1. I use the DF regularly. But I'm finding so many parties where the Tank can't hold aggro, and the members quit over a wipe that really wasn't anybodies fault, stuff just happens sometimes. But if you're a lv50 Tank and you can't hold aggro, you need to be doing lower lvl dungeons til you learn how. I'm sorry for the DPS but I have no patience with Tanks who don't know how to Tank.
Just make the number of tomes received a percentage of the dungeon completed. (i.e. if they complete 20% of the dungeon, they get 20% of the tomes)
removing the number of bosses shown and making in progress always checked would fix a lot /hard
All the justification for joining in progress is a pretty cute way to say "I want to be carried", and it doesn't even matter because apparently in some people's mind, you'd have a guy who click 'join in progress' checkbox, and then say it pops up AK with 2/3 cleared, that guy is going to say, "This means they're at Ananatoboga which means a smooth sailing to an easy 40m stones. I better NOT join this party!" Anyone else who sees the "2/3 AK completed" will easily realize this is most likely an easy win and take their chance (there's a slim chance say everyone ragequit at Ananbotoga with 5 minutes left but you got to take your chances). Since the DF is still a first come first served deal, having a 'join only groups that already did all the work' wouldn't do you any good, because anyone else can easily see when a group has done all the work and you wouldn't get these freebies any more often because everyone ahead of you in the queue will definitely claim those freebies.
Seriously it seems someone always has complaint about something. To both side's this isnt burger king you cant have it your way. This is a MMO and you/me/everyone needs to deal with small issue's regardless because players can change their mind at anytime. This is something that should have been fixed before launch but.. in fact it was over looked, dont blame the players blame the dev's for this.
