If you believe what EMX has said. The fact that he's only personally used one gearset for BLM to test, and has just used his physical damage formulae screams as poor testing. He's only done testing with an i90 weapon. He also took some data from another person in his damage formulae thread, but even with that, there was very little variation in gearsets. He's since moved onto League of Legends and Wildstar rather than be bothered to actually test things properly.

A little spoiler before I post the calculator:

Current BiS weights (470 ACC CAP):

*See SpreadSheet for current BiS stat weights*

    --

    Things to Note:

These values are DYNAMIC (Meaning they fluctuate with different WD/INT/DET/CRIT/SSPD values).

So, you CANNOT use the same weight to compare gear sets if one of these stats is different (explanation below). It is not a one-size fits all kind of deal because EACH GEAR SET WOULD HAVE ITS OWN STAT WEIGHT.

So, keep this in mind when comparing phat lewtz or you could just disregard the stat weight BS altogether and plug in numbers into the calculator to get your theoretical INT and DPS value.

TL;DR - I made this sexy calculator to make our lives easier, so use it or I will cut you.

    ---

+WD will increase worth of everything and then some (bonus damage boost to every point of INT and DET)
+INT or DET will increase worth of everything
+SSPD will increase SSPD's INT worth
+CRIT will decrease CRIT's INT worth*

*This is due to the fact that INT is already benefiting from the base 5% Crit chance at level 50 (341 Crit pt). So, by adding more crit points, we are also adding more crit damage to this 5% base. It just so happens that this extra crit + raw damage from +1 INT is always more than +1 CRIT pt for any given gear set, and therefore crit will never be able to catch up, and instead fall behind.

Another way to look at it is (quote from Kenji):

-Lets say that 1 int adds 1 damage, then we multiply by our total crit gain
-Since the crit mod is 50%, it will asymptotically approach 1.5x
-But INT, which adds damage, AND THEN gets the crit mod, would benefit from both, and does not have an asymptotic cap
-So, INT > CRIT simply because crit helps INT more than INT helps CRIT
-Crit eventually stops being useful, meaning its value keeps dropping to 0, while INT stays useful

So in the end, we have

    WD > INT > DET > SSPD >= CRIT

In my opinion, comparing stat weight is just another way to theoretically measure each stat's worth compared to INT.

However, when it comes to choosing what gear to use, I would go by theoretical DPS for X gear set with certain spell rotation rather than comparing which set or item piece has more theoretical INT (though I speculate that more theoretical INT = more DPS).

This calculator/formula will also works for all class/job to calculate stat weights and RAW damage for certain ability. It does not apply to auto attack, however.

If you have unique spell rotations in mind (both single target and AOE) that you want me to test out, please feel free to post them. You can customize your own in the new spread of course, but it will be too complicated for most of you to even bother.

I'll have the new calculator up by next Wednesday.

If the value of additional crit drops to zero the more you pile on, then what's the max crit that's worth having? Or rather, how does one go about figuring out when concentrating on alternate stats is better than piling on more crit?

I'd love to take a look at your data Puro, although going to be away this weekend. Hopefully the calculator will be up by then.

That said, could you find out for me the weighting for each stat on the following build:

    WD 75
    Int 514
    Det 347
    Crit 545
    Spellspeed 601

    1 CRIT = 0.209 INT

Point for point DET might be worth more than SSPD/CRIT but if you take into account item value/weights, DET is more expensive on item budget (every 1 CRIT/SSPD you can get 0.7 DET~). This put SKS/CRIT above DET still on items.
Might want to clarify this so people don't start gearing for DET.

Yeah, the lack of DET on gear is kinda annoying... and frankly makes the stat weights a little less valuable.

But, some food for thought, perhaps...

http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/N9QI - More Det, Less RNG
77 WD, 578 Int (Dunefolk), 311 Det, 457 Crit, 504 Speed... Kenji's Magic Number says... 2.854604 Potency Value, or 2.945609 w/Selene counting as a 15% increase in Spell Speed.

http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/N8VO - Suggested as BiS on page 78, requires pentamelded super belt
    77 WD, 573 Int (Dune), 251 Det, 562 Crit, 523 Speed... Magic Number = 2.888096, or 2.984528 w/ Selene.

    http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/N9QR - Potential BiS w/o OMG Belt
77 WD, 578 Int (Dune), 244 Det, 526 Crit, 537 Speed... Magic Number = 2.884818, or 2.984401 w/ Selene... Miniscule Difference from Superbelt Option.

Actually, there is another build that results in 2.8883 with the "omg belt". It also requires a bit less High Allagan drops. I can also see it scale a little better with Selene due to the higher SS in the build.
    573 int, 255 det, 511 crit, 561 ss

I've been using that build but with Evenstar chest because of my awful luck and the damage output is still respectable. I'll test it again next week with the HA chest to see if my damage improves in T8 and T9.

Edit: BiS for gil buyers @ 2.915406
