    Fishing, Cooking & Gil

To put simply, please increase the number of fish that are useful for cooking. There are almost 200 different types of fish in FFXIV and only 29 (15.5%) can be used for cooking and this makes the grind of fishing very mundane.

Can this be raised to at least, 20-22%? I honestly would like 25%.

It has become painfully evident that the reason we do not have more of an impact on the economy as other crafts is because of the threat of RMTs / BOTs, but both still exist in game.

To name a few fish we have:

    Crayfish
    Princess Trout
    Dusk Goby
    Crimson Crayfish
    Tree Toad
    Pipira
    Brass Loach
    Tiger Cod
    Maiden Carp
    Warmwater Trout
    Helmet Crab
    Rothlyt Oyster
    Bluebell Salmon
    Dark Bass
    Black Eel
    Black Sole
    Bianaq Bream
    Ash Tuna

I know some might not agree with this post, but as a person that enjoys fishing, I am only trying to improve our craft and increase our impact on the economy.

I enjoy fishing, too, Davy (in game, not in real life). And, like you, I'd like to see a few minor changes to the profession. Every fish should have a function. 100%. The functions could include:
    • Culinary or alchemical recipes (done, but could have more)
    • Leve or GC turn-ins (done)
    • Convert into shards/crystals (needed)
    • Convert into bait (done)
    • Aquarium (if it ever gets implemented)
    • Specifically identified as vendor-fodder (fish that don't fit in any of the other categories)
Additionally, it would be nice to fish up something besides fish. A FC member mentioned to me today that reeling in the occasional minion would be fun. How about using nets and pulling in low-level gear or jewelry every now and then?

I'm 25+ in all DoL and DoH EXCEPT fishing. It seemed the least useful by A LOT.

Every fish needs to have a function OR you need to be able to control what fish you catch.

I'm actually looking for a list of fish that are useful and that I should hold on to. I've encountered a few so far but they seem to be the exception. I may just use the above list as a guide.

There are two minions that can only be acquired from Fishing (tadpole and mini-adamantoise). I'd be interested in pulling in other things only if it's useful in some way (no rusty gear like in FFXI). Hopefully they do let fishing have something to do with the Housing system.

I'm just sad that there are 1-2 Star fish, but they don't seem to have any use... or at least no one is buying them off the market.

I found a list that supposedly showed which fish had uses and which were of absolutely no use whatsoever (vendor fodder). Using that list, I purged my bags of every fish that was on the "useless" list.

    Dang.

Wouldn't you know it, the very next day, what shows up on my GC turn-ins list? And, in days following, more and more of my now-vendored, never-to-be-recovered fish showed up. Grrr.

I now try to cross-reference before dumping fish. /sigh

I've had that, too, but I can't hold onto everything just in case it pops up as a GC request. There's just not enough inventory room, even with retainers.

That is not the reason for not being really useful. The reason is because the Devs wanted a Relaxing time sink in the game. Something that is semi useful but that no one would feel the need to grind away at it to level it up. That is also the reason they made the method so simple.

Right now you can generally cover your bait costs by selling to the NPC the non-crafting fish. You can even make some money on the market boards with them is you sell them right (In batches of 10 costing at 3x NPC buying price, they sell pretty quickly) people buy them for GC turn-ins. I even sometimes buy my daily fish since depending on your luck at it, it could take you over an hour trying to get them. Sadly most of the time I only see them sold it 50+ bundles selling for 10k+, No way am I spending that much for a daily quest that may or may not be repeated.

They did say they would be making it a little more rewarding. They gave an example of fishing up a treasure map that would open up a quest for you to complete.

Yesterday I fished a bunch of Northern Pike on my fisher alt. Used in one recipe but also in a triple turn in levequest. So I sold them in batches of 18.

Many fish have non crafting uses. Any list should darn well include all other uses.

    Shadygrove,

I understand that some other fish may have a function other than for CUL, but the purpose and title of this post is using fish for cooking, making more meals and earning gil. Not turning fish in for GCSs, which you can turn in almost ANYTHING and get seals.

Even If SE was to add, 15-20 more fish to the CUL recipe book I would count that as a win. But as it stands right now, FSH is the most useless DOL in game. IMO. Just being fun will not change the need for FSH to have market impact like the other DOLs.
