Frankly, most people in Coil aren't going to want to play with you anyway on account of your being on PS3.

Ha, I'd love to see no voice chat turn 2 boss encounter, dat STD & tank threat sharing.

Communication is required to succeed in coil, be it game party chat or voice. The thing is, many of us prefer Voice, and use voice for everything so when we get that one member who wants to type and not talk or even listen it disrupts us and leads to lower chances of success. I know when someone says something in chat and not TS when we are running 90% of the time i don't even see it because we all use TS to communicate (nothing important goes in chat box, and if it does it must have a <se.#> in it so we know to look at chat)
For people like myself and my group, bringing in someone without TS is just a headache since we never use party chat to communicate anything in raid, and many other do the same and this is why we require TS (or other voice).
Yes its more of a challenge when on PS3, but 1/2 our coil group does PS3 so we know there are plenty of options, and someone unwilling to use any of them is not likely going to fit with our group anyways.
This is 100% BS, and anyone who wont play with someone whos on PS3 has there heads so far up there rear its not funny. Anyone not willing to play with PS3 members are not worth your time as they are too out of the loop and not a good part of the community which is one of the most important part of any MMO.
Silencing and tank switching is not hard to do w/o voice at all, I have done the bard silencing without any talk or party chat, not hard to watch and know its your turn. Same with tank swap, soon as other tanks debuf is off you know its about to switch. The only thing in turn 2 that would be hard w/o any chatting would be Rot.

I did coil multiple times without voice chat
omg, i can read people's mind?
If a Turn is yet not on farm then yeah Voice chat is almost always a must. If your group been doing Coil for a while and everyone knows what they are doing, yeah you can afford not to be on Voice chat.
Personally, no voice chat no coil even when my group clears everything up to T5 under an hour. I rather have a social interaction with people while raiding and voice chat makes it easier plus forces the entire group to focus when needed.

Guess i'll be studying up then, VC simply isn't an option.
Didn't the developers say that voice chat was deliberately left out so that people wouldn't be pressured into using it? The same with PVP not forming part of the main story; it's too divisive. I read that somewhere.
Ergo, voice chat is probably a preference, rather than a requirement.
I, personally, would like the option.

I'm guessing you either got picked up in Rev's Toll through shouts or used the DF to join a group that is either an FC or a LS. Those are the people that made voice a requirement not SE, and that was your luck. I have never got into a DF pug where 8 random ppl all said that everyone has to be on their voice chat. That would be madness. Not everyone requires voice.Yes you can do it w/o the things you said. And if you have acess to them great. But if you don't? Then you're either SOL or gonna have to really study the content while other people get through it easier via 3rd party usage. How is this acceptable? It seems like a glaring oversight.
1.) If you join a FC or LS that requires voice and you cant use it then yes you are SOL
2.) Of course people need to study content that should be a given for any game.
Both are acceptable to me.
