I don't see why so many people are so against something that could benefit the game. In previous games with in game voice services I have met some really cool people that even to this day (5+ years) I am still friend with. I know that every now and then you get some little jerk whom is a pain in VC but that's when you just mute or blist them.

Muscle memory stuff is fine without voice chat, that's on autopilot once people have got the encounter down. The issue is with mid battle adjustments, if I need a ballad a little earlier than normal and ask for it via typing rather than mumble (Sadly happens more often than I'd like, I'm a bit 'last gen') chances are I'm not going to get it. The same applies tenfold with detail stuff such as adjusting formation and whatnot.

So whilst it's not essential, it is a massive help when it comes to learning an encounter and improving one's game.
