That they'll need to spend more time and money modifying the software in order to make the whole system work seamlessly? That they'll need to spend more time and money on maintaining more machines? That downtime during a crash or maintenance or upgrade would be significantly higher because of this?

Do you realize that it would take a small fraction of that time and money to simply get rid of all the complexity and make it a simple transaction database with the interface and everything being done in the game client?

Probably not.

And for the record, I'm advocating the removal of retainers/zones because I can analyze the system properly, and because I know there will still be limitations and problems with the retainer dungeons regardless of how much work is put into them. Some designs just don't work, bro.
I am not ignorant to the hardware of servers, and I know what it takes. I say "it needs work" I say it that way because there are many things that need to be fixed and adjusted, and alot of it has been talked about already.

I am not going to go into every detail as to what I think needs to be done, as I dont feel like, nor have the time to waste doing so. Some of you are shooting down the idea before it is even finished, honestly that is pretty stupid and small minded. The Market Wards will work, and in their current state (except for the crashing) is decent. But yes the MW do need much more work, and when they are done properly, they will be just as good as an AH, like "so many" are screaming for......... I say "so many" because hardly a fraction of the player base even comes here, so even the vocal "majority" that want the retainers and MW removed, are no where near the majority of the player base.
