Instanced market wards are stupid. Get those instances out of my face.

I was going to repeat myself again in this thread, but instead I will be useful by linking a video.

When I originally heard of the market wards idea, I thought it would be more like a market and less of an NPC orgy in a very small room. I hope they fix this sometime or add an auction house.

Yeah it was a bit odd the first few times I went into the Market Wards. So many people just standing around, with that elevator music playing...it was eerie.
An instance system is the way to go for stability and lag reasons, but make the Market Wards more alive. Make them larger, more stalls, more things going on. Give them architecture that fits the city its in, not all the same.
But this is again my opinion. So implement some sort of AH inside the market wards, but keep the retainers. If the players prefer the AH then so be it. Still keep retainers for things such as LS, and company retainers.

The crashes are good for getting a retainer in a ward that is full and not accepting any more retainers. I really don't know why SE implemented the save retainer thing on maintenances when wards are limited in size. I currently have a placeholder retainer in the battle ward just because I'll need it in a few days yet it currently stocks no battle things. Why? Because if I didn't put it there the ward will be full when I do need it.

Also if you notice on the Market ward crashes it is always only Ul'dah it is not a matter of stable because I bet they would be if everyone spread their retainer's out. It's player's that keep crashing it because EVERYONE IS IN ULDAH so ALL RETAINER"S will be in Uldah too so just due to the massive amount of retainer's in them they will be more stable people need to spread out their retainer's but that isn't going to happen because the large majority of the populace is in Uldah, Server's can only handle so much. I see more "people" in the wards then I do in the citys...

Back before they made it so 'usually' retainers stay in their designated spots after a crash, you could tell when they crashed in other cities too. I can confirm previously both Gridania wards and Limsa wards have crashed as well. That is not to say that Ul'dah isn't overpopulated, but that there were/are other issues going on with the crashing of the wards other than just crowding. Also if you notice on the Market ward crashes it is always only Ul'dah it is not a matter of stable because I bet they would be if everyone spread their retainer's out. I used to stay in Gridania wards because I love the stands there, but I eventually moved to Ul'dah to try to actually sell something. Hopefully, once sever population goes up along with content in the other cities, the retainers will spread out more evenly between the three.

That would be an example of the backend database being unstable due to corrupted transactions. The more there are, the more the chance of errors in the database. This will get better overtime as they work on it and implement better real time error detection/correction.Also if you notice on the Market ward crashes it is always only Ul'dah it is not a matter of stable because I bet they would be if everyone spread their retainer's out. This is Japan, and a Japanese gaming company so they use very little FLOSS therefore backend systems such as this lag behind the US, and European systems. Imagine if Facebook used MS SQL ROFL!!!!

Actually devs/mods I would like to know if FFXIV uses MSSQL or MYSQL, or some other proprietary database.

The servers are designed to host way more players than they currently do. If this game had been a success the wards would be a massive disaster right now with many people locked out of them due to limitations. Then again they probably would have addressed it by now if the issue was that big. Also if you notice on the Market ward crashes it is always only Ul'dah it is not a matter of stable because I bet they would be if everyone spread their retainer's out.
